I can remember my mother soaking the turkey the day before Thanksgiing in hot water so that she could pull the pinfeathers out. Do turkeys stilll come with pinfeathers anymore?
Guess there could be, especially if it was killed locally. Another reason for soaking (in salted water) is to kill any bacteria inside the cavity since most people stuff them. I have actually seen them on chickens from the grocery store.
When I went duck hunting, I would take them to a live poultry market where they had a machine that picked them clean. That was a long time ago in a different place. Do they still have live poultry markets?
There are two farms locally that raise their own chickens, I buy there. One also sells beef once a week, fresh. Eggs and everything taste so much better!
