Any Other Californians Here??

We moved to California when I was five and I grew up there. It will always be the state I love the most.

Husband got a job transfer, 35 years ago, been here since then. If I had understood I would have to spend the rest of my life where I am now, I never would have moved.

Oh now you've got me curious....where are you NOW? My ex husband dragged me to CA and it was such a shock at the time but boy did CA and I grow on either other, and no husband after some time here...

Born in Los Angeles in '36. Retired from General Dynamics/Convair in 91 and left Calif. It was a wonderful state until everybody decided to live there. Newbies drove up housing costs along with many other undesirable things. I loved Cal but was driven out and I'll never go back.....alive. My ashes will go there with my wife's and my Granddaughter will bury them there.

And then there is Silicon valley and I lived up there on a job transfer, talk about pricing being driven up..that's what Silicon valley did to that even higher priced area than than down here in many ways. Some of the tiny houses in Los Gatos, Saratoga and San Jose in general, I was in shock at the prices and this was in the 80's....

Now here in Santa Monica, the yahoos, googles and the likes are all coming in here and driving the regular folks to extreme distress and some have to leave and move in with family...it's the $$$$$ today and maybe it's always been that way ... profits before people.

I lived in California for a month, does that count, probably not, but.. Just recovering from a divorce a friend ask me to come out to LA. We lived close to what I called down town area in a 20 or so story apartment building. My friend worked days and I would read the classified ads looking for a job. Every night we went to a bar that reminds me of (Cheers from TV) every night. In this group there was lots of drinking, light and hard drugs etc,. but if someone from the regular group didn't show someone would call to check on them, not one of these people were married. Its was common to see police helicopters with spot lights after someone. and one night we just had walked out of the apartment building to get the car and 10 or 12 Asians were chasing one person on foot almost ran us down. Then there was the mild earthquake that shook the entire building and that was enough for me. The rest of my visit was touring the coast and entire area and LA was more than my mind could comprehend. I guess my vision of LA/CA is like that of the blind guy that was describing an elephant, but I would agree California would be a great place to live, if you could afford it. (It wasn't ghetto, it was just live-in LA)

I've had a great life here WITHOUT investing in boots, winter coats, gloves, hats, snow tires/chains (unless we went to the snow and told to bring chains) then we rented them...and umbrellas...hardly need them, would buy a couple at 99cent store and they would last me for years.

It's been an easy life with all it's ups and downs, and I've had them. But in warmer sunny climate.

A thought on California living..when I was in grade school and I have a good memory, a classmate would talk about her cousin who lived in Pomona, CA...I was in ah, a cousin in CA???? And years later I found myself living here.

My grandson and his wife and kids live near Pomona-in San Dimas. They have been there for a few years now, while he finished his apprenticeship. They (and we!) had planned to move back "home" after his apprenticeship was done but they have pretty much fallen in love with it down there. I NEVER expected that to happen. They hate the traffic but otherwise like it. I`m so bummed, but then all of my grandkids are spreading their wings. My oldest granddaughter moved to ALASKA on a whim. Loves it there, but we rarely see her...:(

I'm a California Native, meaning I was born in California, and I'm still here. I'll admit, the grass may look greener elsewhere from time to time, once you're there however, you'll soon realize it's still grass. I've been many places and have yet to find one that didn't have pros and cons. Be the best you can be where ever you are. Don...

I spent over a year in San Diego in the Navy plus a couple of months in Vallejo. When my time was up I came back east, never had any interest in California.

I was born in San Luis Obispo, California. Then later our family moved to my Dad's home ground up here in Northern California. Cali is home and I'm ok with that.

Ah, another native child. My grandkids, their dad, his dad, his dad are all natives...
