Any prediabetic or diabetic patients here?

My blood test shows I have high blood sugar of A1C 6.6 in the diabetes range which shocked me
Because it rose by .5 from last year. And I am cautious of my Carbos and junky snacks .I don't
over do it , and went to a diabetes dietician for years.
So now I got a prescription to help curb it. The pancreas no longer functions as well.
Prediabetic patients, does the medicine reduce your glucose level to normal?
Does it work for you without nasty side effects? Are you eating as much Carbos?

Mine was at 6.6 as of a test 2 two weeks ago as well. I've been trying to do better about carbs but I clearly need to work harder at it.

I've been taking Metformin for a while now, and it did seem to help. After a year and a half though, not so much any more. That might be backsliding on my diet. I had some gastro symptoms for the first couple of weeks, but not really after that.

Now I'm supposed to start on Mounjaro. No idea what to expect from that.

My last A!C was 5.2, Still on insulin injections (SA & LA) after 10 years. Started at 5 units X 4, (2 SA, 2 LA) still there. Metformin gave me bowel problems quit after a year The LA is only good for 12 hours need 2 doses. The SA is only good Morn & Night before meals. Nothing @ my noon meal.

I was diagnosed pre diabetes 6.0 in 2022. I changed my diet and got it down to 5.6. Then I kind of fell off the wagon so next A1c was 5.8. I really went after it and by my glucose meter and how I feel it should be way down. I'm due a test this year.

Congratulations, you are all doing much better than I am.

Diabetes is different for each of us and changes over time.

I take a combination of glimepiride, metformin, insulin, and Ozempic.

My A1C bounces between 7 and 8.

It’s my own doing because I don’t restrict my diet as much as I should and I’m ok with it.

I keep my A1C at 4.7 to 5.0 from 6.5 a few years ago. I got off metformin because I started looking like an underweight drug addict and feeling terrible. I just started really paying attention to food labels and eating right along with exercise. I still eat most foods, but do it smartly.

I got my own glucose monitor and test twice a week. That really helps.

I have been a diabetic for years. I take metformin and a small dose of insulin at bedtime. This has controlled my diabetes for years. Initially the metformin upset my stomach, but it was tolerable. In a few weeks it settled down and I have had no trouble with it since. My type 2 diabetes has been under control for years. But you have to stay the course...Good Luck to any newbies.... don't minimize this disease it can kill you. So be aggressive in dealing with it every day...and you will get control of it! And of course, listen to your doctor...

My late husband had Diabetic II. His Diabetic developed in his 60's.
He walked a dog for an hour or so every morning, rain or shine. His diet was so strict, not eating any sweets, white bread and among the others.
While he was tending intensely for diabetic, the cancer, 'small cell, non-smoker lung cancer' seemed to creep up aggressively. His self-diagnosed with loud hacking coughs was 'sinus issue' and didn't seek for a specialist.
He passed away at age 75, due to cancer, not diabetic. He faithfully took his medication, 'white large pills' until his passing.
Probably, he knew Cancer on the back of his head, ... but he could not focus both Diabetic and Cancer.

As I reported over many times . My last A1C was 5.2. The doctor's assistant questioned me, 'Who diagnosed you as diabetic?'. It wasn't the 1st time been asked that, haven't dared give up the injections, probably a needless but maybe a good thing for a senior to continue. Please don't follow my opinion, I've had NO! medical training.

Not really.
My A1C is 5.4.
It is part of my annual bloodwork.
That range is like your glucose count/best under 130 . All over the place, depends which or whose opinion you read.. Read where A1C under 7.0 is recommended for seniors as normal. Mine has never gone above 6.0/105 since 2016. I keep up those shots though, since Walmart has the only reasonably priced insulin, I like the bruises on my belly, very stylish. You need a good count, in my opinion under 100 is low and your zip is slower, energy is questionable, low count can be dangerous, healthwise.
