Anybody have any experience with Omaha Steaks?

I have no personal experience with them but I looked up some reviews on Yelp and Amazon and a lot of people were unhappy with the customer service and some with the quality. Of course, I realize that people who are happy with a product are a lot less likely to review it than people who are unhappy, so that definitely skews the reviews.

I'm really put off by the way they stretch the value of their products. Something like this:

Buy now and receive this package valued at $479.23 for only $60.

I did that introductory package last year, and I'd say it's worth it - all told. Some things are good, like the steaks; some not so good, likt the chicken. Their apple tartlets are delicious. Of course, that's all subjective.

Customer service was great for me. My order contained two of something I was supposed to get and none of something else I was supposed to get. I called to let them know and the missing item was on my porch the next day.

However! Be forewarned! That was a year ago and they still call almost daily. Fortunately, I have caller i.d..

I had them years ago as business gifts and they were good.

IMO you can go to a good butcher shop and get premium steaks at a much better price.

I also agree with arkunsaw about all of the filler items like hot dogs, hamburgers, apple dumplings, etc... that distract you from the actual price/value of the steaks.

The best thing to do is wait for a special and give them a try.

Do they tell you how much a pound it is per type of steak? Price per pound is what matters. Chuck steak should be less per pound than porterhouse.

They usually tell you the number of each item and the total weight of each but not the price of each individual item.

Here is a sample offer.

Hmm. Thinking that anything that sounds too good to be true usually is. I'll gather my wits and think of something else! If the replies had been a resounding "Do it!", I would, but they seem to be more like Lon's "so so"!

Ordered a small package from them years ago, wasn't impressed with their steaks so never ordered again. We love good steaks like boneless rib eyes, but can buy much better steaks, IMO, at the supermarket or Costco. Wouldn't give them as a gift.

When I was still working one of my vendors had a box of ten Omaha new york steaks sent to me one year for Xmas......they were edible but tough.

I really enjoy a good, thick porterhouse or t-bone and if I don't see one precut that appeals to me at the store I ring the bell have have them cut one to my specs.

Several years ago I was on the road (home on weekends) for about eighteen months with the company I spent 31 years with and normally was at each location for a week or more.....I ate at restaurants three meals a day.

Anyway, one little town that I stayed at for over two weeks is about 120 miles from home and had a small steakhouse that was pretty much known statewide for their steaks and I ate there every night and always ordered a porterhouse......they were absolutely delicious !

I got to know one of the waitresses pretty well and we got kinda chummy......I kept asking her what the seasoning was that they put on their steaks but she said that she'd get into trouble if they found out that she had told me and that her and the other staff had been warned when they hired on not to tell anyone.

Finally on my last night in town she followed me out to the parking lot and handed me a piece of paper with the seasonings name on it then gave me a goodbye hug and a peck on the cheek and I've not seen her or the restaurant since.

The name of the top secret steakhouse seasoning is Cavender's......try it you may like it also.cav..jpg

That pretty much sums up my experience with these steaks. A friend got a gift package and we ate them, but they weren't especially good, not nearly as good as our standalone butcher. I didn't think they were comparable to Costco. They didn't come close to the grass-fed steaks I buy directly from the ranch.

I like a nice, tender, juicy steak

Thanks for the tip on the Greek seasoning.

I found this knockoff recipe. I have everything but the rosemary so I think I'll mix up a test batch and give it a try.
