Anybody having problems with usernames and passwords?

I've just went through the password "error" thing with my car insurance company. Then it was Walmart's. There still are a couple of sites that I'm waiting for email codes so I can enter them. Today, it was my MD's & hospital site. Years ago, I bought a password app, and I put everything in it. Then there's password saver app on two computers and my phone. When ALL 4 say x is the password  !!!!!!

About this part: "There still are a couple of sites that I'm waiting for email codes so I can enter them," when they say they're emailing me a code to enter (usually a 6 digit code) it arrives almost instantly. If a significant amount of time has passed and you still have not received the code, you're probably not going to receive it. [If we're both writing about the same issue.]

I'm having trouble with Outlook allowing me to log in to my email account which I've had over 20 years. I get a pop up saying "too many requests," even though it was my initial request. Other people are having the same trouble. In case anyone in SF is having this problem, I found a video saying what to do. The speaker doesn't have a real solution, but doing what he said is the only thing that worked for me.

The problem I'm having is multiple sites requiring a new passwords. In the beginning of the month, I had problems with Breezeline, my ISP. I did the "how many bicycles in this picture", "How many school buses" etc. That's one of the email codes, I'm waiting for.

My EBT (Snap) account locked me out and multiple attempts at getting it unlocked went nowhere. I gave up because it is too much trouble dealing with it online. I can still access it by phone and that will have to be enough. Now they want us to change our PIN every month, that's another inconvenience I don't need as well.

No, I'm pretty good remembering passwords, and just about every windows operating system like Windows 10 I have used has passwords stored in the system settings by default. Some Chromebooks also.

The new SNAP site in my state is so bad now, I stopped using it. I just call now.

I haven't had a password problem (yet), but bitwarden keeps prompting me to set up a Passkey for Amazon. I don't know what that is or how to use it, and I don't know if all my devices will work with it, so I'm just skipping the passkey thing each time. Hmmm, I tried just now and it didn't mention it today, I hate things that keep happening until you tell someone and then they don't happen anymore! ha

I tell you what annoys me, is very often outlook will not accept my password even tho' I know it's the correct one. Just yesterday for example..it did it again.. I entered the correct p/word 3 times then it said I had to make a new password, so I let it send me a link so I could change the password, and then I entered the same p/wod I was using before.. and it said ''You can't use the same p/word you've used in the last year '':oops::oops:...but wait..I thought I was entering the wrong p/word according to outlook..:oops:

Login ID & Passwords used to be a lot to deal with. I decided to make separate categories like financial & health. I typed on a notepad the id & p/w info, printed that & then deleted the printed notepad info. I like the 6 digit confirm as a way to assure some degree of security. Haven't had a problem since.

If you look at your Outlook activity list, you may find multiple attempts to access your account from strange sites. That may be why you have a problem.
I have a site that requests a new password every year.

I've seen this on my own Outlook account, and it's very unnerving. Regular password changes, complicated passwords, and 2FA have been keeping my site secure, but seeing attempts to access the account literally on an hourly basis from countries across the world still creeps me out.

I have set all my emails and credit cards to mandate a password change every 90 days.

I have not changed my Outlook password in at least 6 years and Outlook never prompts me to change it. But as stated in (my) post #2, I continue to get the pop up "too many requests", causing me to have to reload the page multiple times (sometimes 10-12 times) before I can access my account. I don't know what I can do if someday reloading the page no longer works.

It should not be a concern of Outlook or any other email provider if the user does not want to change their password since the provider is not at risk if the user's account is jeopardized.

"Forgot your password: click here".

"We sent you a new PW. Please fly to Timbuktu to 123 Main st. We have hidden under the birdbath in the backyard your new PW. We have done this for your personal safety to make sure no one else can know it."

The large hospital system I worked for got security-gung-ho one year and assigned people passwords for their work accounts. It would be something like A*32ZY59#23T and we were absolutely forbidden to have it written down somewhere on our desks (yeah, right).

It took about two weeks of the IT department being inundated 24-hours-a-day with calls from people who had forgotten their passwords for the powers-that-be to reverse the directive. Back to making your password whatever you want it to be.....kids' names, pets' names, IHATEWORKINGHERE, etc.

It drives me crazy when I use a password I've had forever and I get the message that it isn't correct. Wha? So, I'll click on the "change password" button and put the original password in. Then I get the message, "That password is already in use". Darn right it is! It's mine, but it doesn't work. Arrrggghhh!

Two comments... 1) A few weeks ago I was trying to sign in to a site that sends a code to my phone. I tried several times without success. I called the site for tech support and they tried several things, also without success. Then it hit me!! I turned my phone off and restarted it and immediately received about ten codes. It was my phone, not the web site. Not the same issue but it seems somewhat related.

2) Microsoft office is pretty well known for having annoying glitches. Of all of their products Outlook seems to be the worst. It often fails to send/receive mail and has to be closed and reopened to work properly. I recently bought a new PC and found that every time I would start typing an email in Outlook the CPU would usage would go way up and all of the cooling fans would start howling trying to cool things down.
As soon as I would stop typing the CPU load would go back to normal. I did some research on this issue and, although it wasn't common, many people were complaining about it on the MS website. One of the MS techs eventually found a workaround for the problem but they're still looking for a permanent resolution.

Thanks for your input. I hope they get it resolved soon. After having an Outlook (Hotmail) a/c more than 20 years, I'm not wanting to change to another email account. Besides, I had a very hard time setting up my SSA a/c (I posted about that in another thread) and the SSA a/c is tied to my Outlook email, same as my Medicare account is.

exactly that's what I wrote above...it's absolutely infuriating...

My thought on much of today's technology is that the people designing it probably don't use it.

OP's pain was an excellent example why password apps while making access simple on average can also occasionally make access impossible without creating new accounts. Also same issue for those that only ever Save their passwords on their computers or phones. Fine as long as such can be accessed, haha. But not being able to do so that could be for several reasons and one is locked out with little chance of recalling what they rarely have to type. IMO, better to create one's own password system that one regularly has to enter and thus won't forgot frequently passwords used.

Log-In Security Alert, Huh?

For infrequently used passwords, also use an encrypted password file per above link.
