Anybody really think we can do away with oil?

I don't think most people are even aware that oil is not just used to make gasoline for your car.
Pass this along to the next person who says we don't need "fossil fuel".

A lot of things need to change for that, drastically. No big events, no excessive travels, no big Hollywood productions, the way of life we are so used to, etc.

I am aware. Oil/petroleum is even used in artificial sweeteners. I think we can do away with oil or at least decrease it's usage but there has to be an incentive (more money to be made) to change the status quo. Large Oil will not allow change unless they can make more money with the alternative. Otherwise it ain't gonna happen. This reality brought me to the question of who is really in charge of this rodeo? I have my own answers but other people's may be different.
