Hi,
I'd like to know more about which neighborhoods and suburbs are most affordable for seniors
or those with limited incomes? More St. Petersburg than Tampa proper.

Do you live there or used to live there, recently?

Affordable is in the eye of the beholder.

Pinellas county, St Pete, Clearwater and 22 other towns, has beaches. Tampa is not on the Gulf, it is on Tampa Bay.

We have moved to Clearwater 3 times, it draws us. We are in a 55+ condo apt this time, there are lots of homes, condos and mobile homes here. You can look at them on http://realtor.com

I live in Largo, Fl.
About at the center point between Tampa and St. Petersburg via I275.

I really can't comment on what is more affordable but my guess is St. Petersburg would be more affordable.
Downtown Tampa is "big city life", although Tampa is a very big city with many outlying neighborhoods.

St. Petersburg downtown is absolutely gorgeous.
Just beautiful.

It also has many different neighborhoods.

If I were to buy a home in either city, for me personally, St. Petersburg would be my choice.

I am trying to rent an apartment. I mean about $900 a month
for a midsize place, at least 850 sq. feet. How much would the electric cost
per month? I am not choosy about the suburb. I don't need nightlife, nice
restaurants, schools. Is 900 too low, you think?

850 sq ft at $900 in either of those areas isn't going to happen, you'd be lucky to get 650 sq at that rate in a nice neighborhood. Rent's are sky rocketing in Florida. I lived in the Tampa area a decade ago have friends there now who rent and the rents don't stabilize, they jump up yearly quite a bit. The rent on my old Tampa apt last I checked, has nearly doubled. Before moving from Sarasota, which was about an hour from or so from St Pete, my rent was just over $1000 for less than 750 sq ft.
