Anyone have alopecia?

I started about a year ago with one small bald spot on my scalp. Then it got much bigger, then 5 more spots appeared, and they got bigger. Totally, completely bald spots, smooth as a baby's behind:eek:! I wear caps all the time to cover my head, otherwise I look like I have a horrible disease. The spots are slowly starting to fill in, but I'm going to a dermatologist in January for injections that sometimes help. They say it could be a one time thing, or it could happen again and not grow back in . It's an auto-immune disease in which the body's immune system attacks healthy cells. So, is anyone else dealing with this? And if so, how do you deal with it?

I don't know anyone with the condition. Have you researched using Rogaine, would that help? You could try using olive oil or aloe vera on the spots and see what happens, it won't hurt if no results.

I don't know if you're male or female. If male and nothing helps, you could consider shaving your head, lots of men do it nowadays and some look good that way. Good luck!

Thanks Catlady! I'm a female. I've tried Rogaine, and already had some of the shots, not much happening. Olive oil and the likes won't help, it's an auto immune disease that causes it. I was just wondering if anyone else had it and how they dealt with it. Oh, and I got so sick of trying to cover the bald spots, which got to be an impossible task as the bald spots multiplied, that I did shave my head. 😲 Which mortified one of my sisters, LOL! Oh well, what will be, will be I guess, just have to wait it out and hope it gets better.

So sorry! You can always wear a wig until/if you find a solution. If being bald doesn't bother YOU, go for it, lots of people out there who practice unconventional lifestyles. Hope someone with better solutions replies. Good luck!

Yup, I have wigs too! I wish I could leave my head like those ladies above, but this is what my head looks like, not a pretty sight (and this is after some grew back) Thanks for trying though :)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Fibromyalgia is an auto immune disorder as well as lupus. Some of the symptoms overlap.
While I haven’t been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, years ago I contracted a virus called Gullian Bare and apparently it can stay dormant and break down the immune system causing fibro symptoms later in life.

There have been a few pivotal stages in my life when my immune system was compromised / weakened . A fibromyalgia specialist said I had many fibro symptoms. It seems to develop every 7 or 8 years. What’s incredible is that in between my flare ups I’m super healthy.

Anyway when I went through my flare ups I’d lose a LOT of hair. I didn’t have bald patches like you but my hair line went back about an inch and thinned out. If you saw my hair you’d know why I was worried. I believe it’s all related.

If that happened to me I’d shave my entire head.
Bald is sexy. It’s clean. It’s liberating. It’s easy to care for.

There are quite a few things that help stimulate hair growth. I’d keep researching your options while you keep shaving. Even shaving hair stimulates the root system.

My man shaves his head every everyday with a manual razor. He used to use an electric one and shaved once a week.

He’s losing his hair and this makes his hair loss look less noticeable , believe it or not.

And of course I deleted the wrong post.
Anyway I’d rock the bald look. Make it deliberate and intentional. Inner confidence it hot.
You’ve got this.

I don't know how valuable this natural treatment is , but I always like to explore natural remedies instead of more harmful prescriptions or trendy As Seen on TV remedies. Thought it was worth a look see, I have no personal experience with alopecia, my husband does have the usual male pattern baldness. It's easier and more common for men than women. My mother, as she went into her 70s, had developed a bald spot at the crown of her head. She never had long hair, but grew it then just to make a bun at the top to cover her bald spot. :(
