Anyone try making tea in a coffee pot?

Tired of making it one cup at a time. Tea is too labor intensive. :)

I have a cheap Mr. Coffee drip pot. Could you just put tea bags, or tea, in the filter?
(Thought I'd check before wasting tea bags on an experiment. LOL!)

I know people who use their French press to make tea but I don't know that a regular Mr. Coffee would work very well. Tea has to steep awhile to develop flavor.

Get a Keurig Nancy. Brew tea, coffee whatever you want. Even soup.
Checked out a video. Seems like one cup at a time still. I'd like maybe 3 cups kept hot and ready.

That's what I'm afraid of.

I don't see why not, Nancy. All it is , is hot water soaked leaves.

Have you tried a tea ball filled with loose tea, steeping in a tea pot?
That sounds like a winner. With a long chain to sit in the bottom (pot). I used to have a tea ball, even.

Can you buy tea bags with extended length strings? LOL!

I don't know about the strings, but you can always tie on an extension. They sell butchers twine at the supermarket.

O.K. on a drip type percolator like a Black and Decker.

Pull the carafe out and make the tea in the container. Only one cup though because it will leak all over the place with more. The hot water will come into the strainer but because the carafe is out it wont leake out. Leave it to steep. It should work. I do that for my coffee to make a stronger brew. When I put the carafe back in there is a release plunger on the strainer basket that opens into the carafe.

Thanks Camper! My basket holds 3 regular (6oz) cups of water. That would be good enough.

The rubber stopper popped out a few months ago, but it was good at holding water, no leaks. Will try that when this coffee pot conks out, which I think will be soon. :(

I have a small (4 cup) drip coffee maker and I use it for tea. I put in a couple tea bags and let it drip through, and it works fine. If you like it stronger then you can always add more tea bags or move them into the carafe after it has brewed, and let them keep steeping in there.
I also have one of the stainless steel mugs that I use for coffee or tea, and it will keep the tea hot for hours while you are drinking it.
I have also used a pan on the stove and added the teabags and that works fine, too; but the little coffeemaker will keep the tea hot easier.

Thanks, HFL. I will try that. As soon as I get some filters.

I just fill my little old Corning ware teapot with water, the one with the blue cornflowers on it. When the water is shimmering I put two tea bags in,take it off the heat and let it set until it is cold.Remove the bags pour a cup and heat that in the micro wave. I'm the only one drinking it so it sits on the stove until it is empty. Even over night is fine with me. My son in law who drinks nothing but tea is horrified when I told him this and he would never put tea in a cup that had coffee in it. He says he can taste coffee. I really doubt that but I save one special cup for him when he comes and he brews his own.

Hi Ruth! I keep the drip coffee pot upstairs in the hall between the room I'm in right now and the bathroom (water supply). Just use it for hot water and use tea bags in cups. An easier solution might be to just put a microwave out there too, or instead.:) I reheat coffee or tea all the time if I'm downstairs near the microwave. Maybe they make a tiny microwave? I'll check.

They do make tiny microwaves but most of them are either lower wattage or higher priced than a conventional microwave. It sounds like the first project of 2018 should be a kitchenette on the second floor!

Do a google on dorm room Kitchens!

Bea, When my house was a duplex, one bedroom upstairs was a full kitchen. Still has a 220 outlet in there. Hmmm...

I wouldn't mind going downstairs to heat or make the coffee/tea. Good exercise. But I can't carry a cup back upstairs without dripping it all over the place. LOL!
