Anyone using Xfinity internet on home computer?

I am not able to access the Xfinity homepage, so I can't read my emails, etc. It was normal this morning, but now they are prompting customers to use an App.

I don't use my android phone for anything like this, but in order to install the app on my desktop computer, they want me to log into my google account to go to the app. store for download.

This all sounds very involved, and annoying since I'm using the email for medical purposes right now.

Just curious if anyone else here uses Xfinity internet on your home computer, and if they have had to do this. Thanks.

I'm a little confused. We use Xfinity internet via our home computers. However, since we surf with browsers, there's no reason to get an extra "app" to surf around the web. That is, we're not using phones.

I'm not understanding why you'd need an app. That said, we run our own email (via our own domain name) through our own server, so maybe that's why we don't need an app?

Hope you feel okay.

We have internet, tv, and our house phone on Xfinity. I'm not having any issues accessing the home page but they did a big "upgrade" in our area and it's been quirky ever since.

Thank you Devi, I'm feeling okay. I have Comcast cable which comes with Xfinity internet. My email is connected with them, so I check that home page morning and night to see if I have any emails I need to respond to. If I order something online, I check there for confirmation and shipping emails.

I've been with them for many years, and now it seems they are changing and require an App. to access 'My Account' with email and account information. We never had any private emails, always used our ISP for that.

I checked my laptop and my husband checked his, and the email and homepage is still available. But there is a note on my laptop that a change is coming requiring an app to get to the account. There was mention of being redirected, so I never worried too much about it.

I can still surf the web, recently downloaded Firefox in addition to the Microsoft Edge on my newest desktop computer. No trouble there, only getting to Xfinity site and my emails. Early this morning, no problem.....now there is. I'll find a way to deal with it if I have to I'm sure, but would rather not have the hassle.

Thanks for your reply. They always seem to be upgrading these days, not all changes are for the better.....in the opinion of a technophobe, LOL>

I use Comcast -X'finity for both computer and tv...no problems with either, only problem
is my laptop, not the services.
Thank you, good to know.

Their new page they want me to get into with an App is called Discovery Hub.

Update: There's a generic avatar on that Discovery Hub page, and when I clicked it there was a dropdown menu which contained a link to my email. So I'm relieved that I can access that, which was most important for me.

I read a lot of people online in an Xfinity forum who were furious about losing their home page with no warning. They clicked on news articles and videos there and were angry that they lost all of that. The new page is mostly spam from Xfinity, wanting you to install numerous apps for their numerous services.

Luckily I did not need an app to access my email. The page is ugly, but once I check my mail I leave it anyway. Seems a lot of businesses these days are constantly making "improvements" which are worse than the original product.

Roll with the punches I guess, is all we can do. Since I'm a technophobe, I get extra excited when these things happen, until my world is back to normalish again. :)

my webpages are beavering away in the background all the time whilst at rest and me not using it - I leave certain pages and forums running but disconnect my internet to stop charges continuing when I come back all has changed . We think we have constant control NO we don't - msn is one of the worst offenders keeps introduciing itself when not even asked to. I feel less and less confident these days that I am controlling my pc - now it has taken to swithing itself off unanounced - maybe it thinks its doing me a favour?? - ah well rapid learning curves I suppose?

Late to the party here but... The email part of Comcast/Xfinity/gmail/yahoo/etc. are just email servers. If you know the Host name and protocol you can set up access on any general email client. The Xfinity web page is just a basic front end (client) pre setup to their server to make it a no brainer for new customers. I did a quick search and found this with the tech spec info for Comcast/Xfinity. I know not everyone is keen on this depth of tech. I'm just providing food for thought. I happen to use EMclient (free) on my PC.

Actually, Comcast/Xfinity are internet service providers — we use them to connect to the Internet.

The email services (which we don't use, as we have our own setup) are in addition to the above. As are the phone line services they offer.
