Anyone watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, Netflix remake?

There's no good reason to revisit it. I enjoyed watching the cartoon series with my kids when they were young.

If they're remaking it, we're not the target audience for it. It's for today's young people who missed the first go around.

I watched the first episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the Netflix remake. The original creators were on the creation team, so that was a good sign. It was a partnership with Nickolodeon and Netflix, another good sign.

To start, the scenery was absolutely stunningly gorgeous. They put a lot of time and effort into that.

The characters seem older than the animated version. They're more teenagers than children.

This version is definitely not geared toward children. There's a guy burned alive in the first scene, and there's a scene with a burned body. For fans of the original, the remake shows the background of how the Air Nation fell. The animated version starts with finding Aang. The remake starts with the battle of the Fire Nation and the Air Nation.

I'm missing the lighthearted fun of the animated series. I think there were a lot of lessons in that. Aang's motto was that despite the literal fate of the world hanging on his shoulders, the important thing in life was to have fun. It's a life lesson I loved about the show. I haven't seen the same spirit in this remake yet.

Was chatting about Avatar TLA about some of the themes of the show. I really like this summary.

"Aang's journey showed us that sometimes, the greatest strength comes from staying true to ourselves and finding joy in the moment, even when faced with immense challenges."

I'm about halfway done with the series. Some of the special effects making the live-action true to the animation are impressive. But the lighthearted tone of the story was sacrificed for realism. It's much more dramatic than the animated.

There are moments that reflect the original true to form, but you'd probably have to be a fan of the original to understand it.

I finished watching the series. Loved the scenery and the costumes. The fight scenes were long and dramatic, unlike the animated version where the fight scenes were short and not very graphic.

I watched this to get the lift I got from the animated version. It was filled with reminders of mindful moments and wisdom about finding what's important.

I didn't get that from this series. If I wanted to watch a well-choreographed version of the cartoon brought to life for the dramatic scenes, I might have enjoyed it more.
