How often have I wanted to say exactly this as my excuse for being late!!!!!

One thing I've never had to do is apologize or make any sort of excuse for being late because I'm very punctual and if anything I'm always early......people that are not punctual and keep me waiting is one of my pet peeves.

Same here. I see you were in the military. That's where I got that pounded into me. "If you are anywhere from one minute to 30 days late you are AWOL. Over 30 days and you are a deserter".

Then when I got my job at the Florida DOT my first boss was retired Navy. His number one rule was if you weren't at work at least 15 minutes early then you were late. His number two rule was the first thing you do when you get to work is get a cup of coffee.

He was quite a character. The guy who was second in charge was retired Army. He was even more of a character. We had a lot of fun in that office back in the day. Both of them had done two tours in Vietnam. I think the main reason I got the job was that I was a Vietnam vet too.

Whenever I have to be somewhere I'm always early. I don't like the stress of running late. When I was working, I was mostly at least 30 minutes or more early. Then I made the coffee and read the newspaper. I think it was more about having my relaxed time.

I'm always on time. My Dad was always late, and that drove me nuts, as a little kid. I'm sure my punctuality was strongly influenced by my Dad's lack of the same.

I'm a punctual person but my later husband was an "early person". I had to teach him that showing up a half hour early doesn't always make you popular with the hosts. After seeing more than one hostess in her slip with curlers still in her hair and the host frantically stuffing things into closets, he got the idea.

When I'm told, "The party starts at seven, I'm there at seven", unless I've asked "Can I come early and help?"

Me to. I'm always on time or a bit early. I hate phone calls that say we are running late. I feel like saying,"then run someplace else".

Well, shoot! Now I feel like I have to defend myself lol!! I posted this primarily as a joke, as a lead in to the subject of insincere apologies rather than the specific topic of lateness.

So.......I am not typically late, I hate lateness too! I don't usually arrive early to things because I typically have things scheduled back to back, but will usually arrive right on time! Because my work schedule is not specific (I don't work a 9 - 5 job) I will sometimes need flexibility when I'ms scheduling things during the week with friends, so I will give them a range. "I can be there between 12 - 12.30" and then I text with updates as I get a better handle on the how the morning is going.

If I have to make a specific appointment (e.g. doctor, hair stylist etc.,) I'll either make it for after normal work hours, on the weekend, or the first appointment of my day so that I'm not tied up with a client by the time the appointment rolls around.

Ex Military here too so I am NEVER late...
My husband is ex-military also and is very punctual. He sees lateness as disrespectful to others so his habits have rubbed off on me somewhat. I was usually always the late one but not any more as I do share the same sentiment . If I don’t want to go I won’t.

I'm rarely late, served in the military but, at least in my case, I don't think that had any thing to do with it. I agree with Keesha's husband, being late is disrespectful to your host, fellow worker, or traveling companion.
