One thing I've never had to do is apologize or make any sort of excuse for being late because I'm very punctual and if anything I'm always early......people that are not punctual and keep me waiting is one of my pet peeves.
My father was ex-military and he was ALWAYS late. And I do mean ALWAYS.

I spent 4 years in the Navy. I was a lowly enlisted guy. I was supposed to always be on time. The Navy, well, not so much. The higher the rank, the later you can be.
I do.

Same here. I see you were in the military. That's where I got that pounded into me. "If you are anywhere from one minute to 30 days late you are AWOL. Over 30 days and you are a deserter".
Then when I got my job at the Florida DOT my first boss was retired Navy. His number one rule was if you weren't at work at least 15 minutes early then you were late. His number two rule was the first thing you do when you get to work is get a cup of coffee.
He was quite a character. The guy who was second in charge was retired Army. He was even more of a character. We had a lot of fun in that office back in the day. Both of them had done two tours in Vietnam. I think the main reason I got the job was that I was a Vietnam vet too.
My husband is ex-military also and is very punctual. He sees lateness as disrespectful to others so his habits have rubbed off on me somewhat. I was usually always the late one but not any more as I do share the same sentiment . If I don’t want to go I won’t.Ex Military here too so I am NEVER late...
