Apple butter.

I've never been much of a jelly, jam or preserves type of guy but I do like some apple butter every once in awhile on toast and there is most always a jar of Musselman's on the refrigerator door......I can recall as a pup that my uncle, on my dads side, liked apple butter smeared on his pancakes rather than using maple syrup and he'd always give me a big spoon full.

Anybody else like apple butter ?

I have never seen apple butter, I'm sure it's not available here, but I'd be willing to try it, over Maple syrup on Pancakes...

My go-to spread for toast or English Muffin is apple butter or a tart citrus marmalade, usually orange.

When I was growing up my father liked apple butter and citrus marmalade, and I too. It used to be cheaper than jams and jellies. Kind of got away from the apple butter somehow but got thinking about it recently, started looking, and none of the chain groc stores had it! of course im thinking maybe its more of an eastern food than something the native southwesterners would fancy. Maybe Ill look in the local whole foods. could probably find it on line for some inflated price.

Another vote for apple butter is OK.

Years ago when the oldtimers made apple butter they would toss a few pennies in the pan.

The pennies would move around and help prevent the apple butter in the bottom of the pan from sticking and scorching.

When the apple butter was finished cooking the pennies would be bright and shiny treats for the kids.

The peanut butter & jelly section in store today is chocked full of stuff to put on bread and crackers. Some of them healthy and some not.

Another vote for "it's ok, but ...".

I prefer a good marmalade that isn't overly sweet. Something like James Keiller & Sons Dundee Orange Marmalade made with Seville oranges is pretty good.

My mother used to make apple butter; it was heavenly. I haven't tried the store bought but I may have to pick up a jar.
