Are the "fly overs' by US aircraft at sporting events necessary? And should the event pay for the fuel?

It's cool to have a US jet fly over a sports game, but is that really necessary? Why do we need fly overs at sports games? And those fly overs ain't cheap. It costs a minimum of $60,000 to fly over a game.. Considering that it's a 'thing" now to have fly overs, we are racking up a pretty penny in expensive aviation fuel, should the sporting event pay for the fuel.? Do we even need fly overs? What are your thought about them?

I am confused. Are we having sporting events?

I wonder if flyovers are part of the training budget. Pilots must practice their skills if they hope to survive combat, so perhaps flying over a stadium is simply a training flight. If not, then perhaps the public should be voting on whether to have flyovers.

Yes it is part of the necessary training to keep readiness. It is true. They have to fly anyway so why not where they can be seen & appreciated. I checked into this when quite a while ago people were beefing about the Thunderbirds & Blue Angels going around to air shows etc.
