Are There Any Store Brand Products That You’re Loyal To?

Through trial and error, I’ve found store brands that I love. I will not buy store brand products a second time if I don’t like them, no matter how much cheaper they are. Finding so many that I can swear by saves me a whole lot of money.

I love Kirkland (Costco’s brand) products. I buy Kirkland almond milk (6 in case, no refrigeration until opened), shredded mozzarella, light blue agave and spices. Their toilet paper is soft enough, the rolls are large and wider than the standard these days. They never go on sale because the price is already great. A 30 roll bundle costs about $4 less than Charmin and lasts a month longer. I love their facial towelettes, baby wipes and disinfectant wipes. However Kirkland brand disinfectant wipes have been replaced by Nice & Clean disinfectant wipes which are the same size with the same variety offered (2 fresh scent and 2 scrubby lemon scent packs) and similar packaging. All their wipes are much larger and sturdier than name brand wipes so I can use half sheets sometimes. Lysol and Clorox wipes are a joke compared to Kirkland's.

Great Value (GV) & Equate (Walmart). Pouch tuna, low fat mayonnaise (never thought I’d like anything other than Hellman’s), kidney beans, frozen mango chunks and coated paper plates. I tried their mint chocolate chip ice cream for the first time last month and it was very good. I like that the container is sealed. I used to buy GV citrus disinfectant spray but haven’t been able to find it since COVID. I also buy Equate Milk & Honey hand soap, which is less expensive than the Soft Soap version.

Bowl & Basket (B & B), Wholesome Pantry (WP), Shoprite (SR) & Price Rite (PR) brands (all affiliated with Shoprite supermarket).
B & B: Wheat bread, muenster cheese, American cheese slices, premium and regular ice cream & block cream cheese. Their premium ice cream is similar to Haagen Dazs. My son and I buy their flavored seltzer water.
WP: vanilla almond milk and my son has been buying WP steel cut oats, so he must like it.
PR: flavored instant oatmeal packets and crispy rice cereal. (like Rice Krispies)
SR &PR: frozen waffles and frozen vegetables except for broccoli florets (I prefer Birds Eye).

So what are your favorite store brands?

Great value. Milk, eggs, cheese, bacon, bread, tea bags, saltines, ice cream, canned sweet peas, chicken and beef broth, black beans, frozen carrots and peas, bottled water. Diet cola and pineapple flavored soda.

Your are right @OneEyedDiva with store brands, buy once, if you like them you can save some money.

Just as important is to take advantage of really good sales on brand names, I usually stock about 3 months worth when the deals are at rock bottom.

"Just as important is to take advantage of really good sales on brand names," Absolutely Blessed! I bought about a year's worth of Francesco Rinaldi when our local supermarket had it on sale for 77 cents, then 88 cents. Now the sale price is $1 but I saw it in Walmart for $1.39, so $1 is still a great price. Costco has coupon sales on name brand items. I wait for those sales to buy, then like you, buy enough to last. This month it was Splenda packets ($6 off 1,200), Centrum Silver for Women ($4 off 275 count) and Zinc ($2.50 off 400 count). It also helps to know the sale cycles for the stores. Costco has certain things on sale three times a year, some twice and some may only be once a year.

A couple of stores in the UK that sell branded goods at good prices are 'Home Bargains' and B&M. We don't have a local B&M, but Home bargains is next door to ASDA and in nearly all cases is significantly cheaper, but with a smaller range of products. ASDA was a part of Walmart for some years, but Walmart recently sold a major stake to a UK investment company. I used to do most of our shopping in ASDA, but it seems to have slipped in terms of both quality and price. Meanwhile, both ALDI and Lidl have grabbed a big slice of the market.

My honorary daughter shops at Aldi's a lot. I've been a couple of times but don't like their choices so haven't gone back. But as my son pointed out, they have good prices on produce.

From Costco: Their brand toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, fabric softener, bold coffee, trash bags and dishwasher tabs. I also routinely buy their fish oil caps, magnesium citrate, CQ10, the Costco version of Aleve and Zyrtec.

I buy Aldi wine, specifically their winking owl brand of Moscato, merlot, Shiraz, and sweet red.

I always buy the Kroger brand of ziploc bags, snack, sandwich, quart and gallon size. I like their olive oil based Mayo too, and there’s a Kroger brand of peach tea packets that’s been my go to for years.

Always willing to try off brand or generic items, but I won’t sacrifice quality or taste for price, and I’m grateful I’m in a position to be that selective!

I'm not loyal, but I am a fan of a lot of Walmart's 'Great Value". It's generally good, sometimes better, and sometimes less than. The peanut butter is kind of dry and flat tasting, so I buy Jiff of Skippy. GV Cookies and Cream ice cream is the best I've had in years. Oddly Walmart is the only place around here that sells whole milk shredded mozzarella, and it's labeled by Great Value. But you just have to try stuff and see what you think. Food isn't that expensive that I won't go out of my way to buy a special brand that costs a little more, if I like it more.

You reminded me, Kirkland liquid fabric softener is the only brand that I like the smell of. Their softener sheets smell really good too. I only use them on occasion because I do prefer the liquid.

I worked in a factory that mixed and packaged baking items like flours, fillings, and frostings. We made one big batch and then packaged and labeled various brands from the single batch!

Many times, store brands are just as good. In a few cases, like the Kirkland examples I mentioned, you can actually get a better product at lower price. For some products like salad dressings, a store brand can be pretty awful.

It's hit or miss.

Low prices draw me in, value keeps me coming back.

I try to shop the dips and buy my favorite brands when they are promoted as a loss leader.

"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten." - Benjamin Franklin - So true, Aunt Bea! I just used a generic pre-rolled pie crust because it was a great 'deal.' What I ended up with was a barely edible cherry pie, but I'll force it down anyway. Like a baby chick says: Cheap, cheap!

Canadian products from Presidents Choice. They have a new mustardy type sauce that is to die for on ham.

And I always buy Kirkland olive oil and their queen size olives, good value.

We buy several Great Value items from Walmart. Virtually all of them are the same as the higher priced "Brand" names. Walmart buys in such huge quantities that many of the manufacturers produce more products with the "Walmart" label than they do with their own name on the product.

PC definitely has some excellent products. I go there just for there blue cheese dressing.

Safeway Compliments brands have some good things, some not. Lots of testing. My husband is fussy about healthy cereal and was surprised to find one there. Likely it will be gone next time because no one else will like it.

Great Value fruit slices - they’re not fruit, they’re gummy candies and I’ll permit myself 2 red or orange per day.

My ex SIL had a grocery store. He pointed out lots of items that were packed by the same company, though not all had the same recipe.

Costco mixed nuts and toilet paper.
