Are We Still Sending Christmas Cards?

I will always love the old fashioned, hand written Christmas cards.....I love to get them and send them. I have noticed , though, that many have stopped sending cards....I KNOW that postage is horrific....but then there is also the internet for sending cards, now, too. I have known people who say that they only send cards every other year.... or only send to people who send them one etc. etc. Any thoughts?

I send Christmas cards every year to family and close friends. I never do internet cards. If there is someone who hasn't been sending a card for a couple of years, I consider removing them from my list, as they may not be interested in the exchange anymore...but that is rare. Postage is not an issue.

Nearly everyone I know has stopped sending them, so I now only send cards to those who send to me first -lol lol lol

Only a few of them do internet cards - yuk

The postage is indeed high - especially when all my family lives in Canada and postage to Canada is .85 cents per Christmas card. It adds up as I have a large family. So, I only send letters to my siblings (and not to all my nieces and nephew) and say, 'Merry Christmas to you and your family'. I also send Christmas cards to some of my aunts and uncles who are close to me. My parents have both passed away. I don't mail Christmas gifts nor do they send me Christmas gifts in the mail. The postage for packages and boxes is outrageous. When we get together, that is the time when we exchange 'Christmas' gifts or we just enjoy each others' company and doing things together - that is more special than exchanging gifts.

I will mail a Christmas card to my daughter, even though she lives near by. She appreciates that I took the time to think of her in a Christmas card.

I do send Christmas cards to both my sons who are serving in the military - they really do appreciate the mail. One of my sons is in a situation where he can not get on the internet on a regular basis, so he really does appreciate the old fashioned mailed letters. I have send others serving in the military Christmas cards as well.

We have some relatives in Finland, so I know the postage is pricey...I just take those to the post office each year, as the price of the stamp always seems to be increasing. Your sons must really miss family around the major holidays, I'm sure all letters and cards brighten their days, we should all remember our troops during the holiday season. :love_heart:

There are certain groups and organizations who gather things to put in boxes for our troops... I may check into how it all works?

There are quite a few sites mentioned on the internet for sending boxes to the troops....just type in "Christmas boxes for our troops" , or just "boxes for the troops"...either will get you there?

I'll admit I don't send to everyone. Only people I do not see with any regularity. I'll give them in person. I'll send e-cards(plenty of free ones on internet) or give a call around the holidays.

More irritating to me are the short stories and fake happy family photos many send out production line style. You know the computer printed form letters telling you that little Johnny lost a tooth and Jill plays soccer now. Along with all the other trivial non interesting non surprising routine things that happened we must read. Some people feel a short story is the only way to go for a simple greeting.

Same for me, Seabreeze.

That's a no from me too. Not a single one this year. Only got 3 too so the guilt is manageable.

The holidays have turned into a gratuitous ritual stressing already stressed people. It's pretty sad that many people when "live" for Xmas. I tell people when they ask about my xmas card sending if I really want to stay in contact or say hi I keep in contact anytime of year. The same people that get upset about xmas cards are the same people that won't take the initiative contact someone out of the blue the other 11 months a year.

Same for New Years eve-amateur night. I don't wait for holidays or weekends although I do wait for 5 o-clock.
