Are you anywhere near Hot Springs, New Mexico?

Or should I say, Truth or Consequences?
What a weird name for a town. Changed from Hot Springs to Truth or Consequences on April Fools Day 1950 on a dare by Radio Presenter, Ralph Edwards.
Some facts about T or C.
1.) Truth or Consequences changed its name on a dare… on April Fool’s Day by Radio Presenter, Ralph Edwards.
2.) Stephen King, the Writer holds the Keys to the City.
3.) It is Literally in the middle of nowhere. It is 150 miles south of Albuquerque and 120 miles north of El Paso. (It’s also about 150 miles west of Roswell, but they don’t mention that…)
4.) The gravestones face the wrong way. Cemetary tombstones usually face outwards, with the writing on them facing an access road or path.
This placing is so ubiquitous, so common, that you don’t notice this until you drive through a cemetery where all the tombstones have their back to you.
5.) This is where you can find America’s first and only spaceport. Virgin Galactic began constructing Spaceport America 30 miles outside of town back in 2006 and recently completed all major construction.

So, will you be visiting Truth or Consequences on your next Vacation?

hahaha! Yes I was there once as it's not far from where I live but, sorry, I wasn't that impressed with it.
I guess I live literally in the middle of nowhere as I am also South of Albuquerque, North of El Paso and West of Roswell!
This is odd you should know so much about T or C!

About 160 miles south from where I live. Stopped there on bus trip on way to the Space port, which was fabulous experience . But not quite the middle of nowhere. The part of NM that seemed like that to me was where the Very Large Array radio telescopes are, near Magdalena.
T or C does have springs and little lakes around it.

I read a lot.
Never know what one might learn by reading.:)

Not always a mispronunciation..
Butte is home to one of the largest hazardous waste sites in the US, the Berkeley Pit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berkeley_Pit), its right in town, hard to miss. Locals try to pass it off as a tourist attraction (https://www.visitmt.com/listings/general/landmark/berkeley-pit). No bird lands in that "lake" and lives...

Hahaha!
It's a stark, lonely area. With the feed mills and buildings with old wood laptop sidings, the snow berms against the blue sky that goes on forever, wheel ruts on the dirt roads; it had a great ambiance for "Andrew Wyeth" type paintings.
There was a time it had a beautiful Christmas tree in the center of town with ranchers and cowboys and their families standing around it singing Christmas carols.
But, I grew up and everything changes.

Depends on your definition of 'anywhere near'. I'm about an hour north of Albuquerque. So a little further than Gaer. Tiny village in narrow valley. Having lived in the Rocky Mountains since 1994 any place i can drive to in a day (8-10hrs) is basically 'anywhere near'.

I once drove from here to Phoenix, Az and back in 23 hours with stops for Gas an meals. Yes, as only driver--stayed awake whole time. Napped 2 hrs when got home! Slept real good the next night.

There's Boring, Oregon, where most of the excitement is trying to stop people from stealing the signs. They gave up and took them down.

Weed, California sounds interesting.

Baghdad, Florida, is a lot calmer than the other one.

If you're hungry, you can have a salad course in Forks of Ivy, NC and then dash across the country to Forks of Salmon, CA for the main course. Just make sure you take your American Fork, UT with you.
