Are you interested in movies like you to use to be?

Not much difference for me. I may have lost a little interest in films, but I hadn't really thought about it. During and just after the pandemic, quality of films took a dive, with no one going to the theaters. The Marvel phenomenon had already crashed an is just a curious memory. I just assumed things would get better, and I think they are improving. I'm still a fan, but I think Hollywood needs to pay more attention to writing and less to special effects.
 

The studios seem to think longer is better. Not for me. Too long, I don’t watch it. It’s been years since I saw anything in a theatre and they also have trailers and ads to start.
 
I rarely go to theaters, so I don't see any new movies, just older ones I find on used DVDs.

I hear that DVD and Blu-ray players are to be phased out, but not in the short term.

Or the final fight scene: "The bad guy is dead ..... no, he's not ..... yes, he is ..... no, he's not ..... yes, he is ...... no, he's not .....". I often stop the film and never watch the end. I know the bad guy is going to die but I don't need to see every one of his nine lives to get there. The same goes for car chases. Once the car chase begins I turn the film off. I don't care how the film ends.

Exactly. If the film is about a man and a woman I know already she's going to be the good one and he'll be the bad one. I save myself 2 hours by not watching the film.
 
A few years ago I swore off movies about the Holocaust, slavery, or domestic violence. They're such bummers, and I know enough about them to last for the rest of my days. Shindlers List was the last Holocaust movie--makes sense, right?

Covid changed everything ,haven't been back in a movie theatre in 2 yrs,can;t even remember what movie the movie I saw
Now, I check in TV Guide to see what movie is airing on Turner Classic Movies on any given night

I also enjoy a number of Doris Day's films in the same genre. I've even been tempted to look into things like the old "Andy Hardy" films Mickey Rooney made.

I too like the quality of the older films. Re Doris Day, I think Pillow Talk (1959) is one of the best comedy films made. And how about some of those Warner Bros. Technicolor musicals? I'm also a big fan of the classic noir films from 1941-1958.

I too like TCM's programming. Their hosts are good, especially Ben Mankiewicz, but my favorite is Eddie Muller's "Noir Alley" on Sat. nights and Sunday mornings. Oftentimes I'll call up his "intros" and "outros" on YouTube which I use to bookend the noir film for watching online.
 
Have you seen "Blue, White, And Perfect" (1942)?

Sort of "light-noir" detective/espionage story. Comedic aspects but nothing sappy.

I certainly spend more time watching them now that I can do so laying around in my underwear and streaming whatever I feel like whenever I feel like.
 
Last movie I saw?

The Curious Life of Benjamin Button...or whatever it was called with Brad Pitt. I walked out on the film 2 hours in as nothing had yet happened. My buddy told me he stuck out the entire 3 hours...and still nothing happened.

But I cannot watch TV, Film...read Newspapers etc...because of my affliction. I'm comfortably dumb in my minimalist lifestyle.
 
I love movies so much! I love them even more than when I was young because I have lots of time to watch them.
My daughter says that I am a movie “ snob” and she’s right!
I really like art films and movies from the Criterion Collection.
I’m not very fond of comedies, action flicks or especially rom/coms.

I disagree with you. One cannot be expected to devour an awful-tasting meal without periodical gulps of water or wine.

great movie deep and meaningful - expands the mind to its full depth - acting superb
 
Benjamin Buttons won a ton of Oscars for costume design...that about tells you how good a movie it was.
 
I can watch movies 7 days a week if I want - I chose not to but they are always there just waiting for someone to press the button! and probably a third are worth it and they're all free the last one I recall mentioning was something about making mincemeat out of Hitler and his crew?
 
No, not much. I have seen hundreds of movies over the years of all types and now they are mostly time wasters. I really like about one out of five movies I choose to watch and then I speed through the DVD. Genuine comedy seems dead...now it's all dark dry snarky humor. Even I could improve it Overrated,loud,crass. Still, I am hopeful and read the reviews like a hobby.
Babygirl and A complete Unknown are last ones I saw in theaters.
 
It may just be me but so many films leave me with the feeling like I missed something. what was the fuss i felt bored and wasted a couple of hours too. Especially films that get so much media attention or hype.
Too many on streaming services that we have actually lost interest in half way thru and change channel.
