Art shows

I just got back from the Mt. Dora Art Show and IT'S NOT FAIR THAT I'M NOT RICH!!! <kicking my heels on the floor and whining "why can't I have everything I want? Why? Why?>

Boy, did I see some art that I would have just about given my left kidney for! Very high prices, though.

People are SO talented and I can't draw flies.

I did buy a piece earlier in the week from my favorite artist and she was at the gallery. I was so happy to meet her again. I've met her at art shows all over the country and have four little pieces by her. Her stuff usually runs up in the $2500-$3500 price range, which is waaaay over my budget but there was one medium-sized painting that I really liked that was surprisingly reasonable so I bit the bullet. It's gonna be beans and hot dogs for a while...…..

The only art shows I've been to are local Starving Artist shows that usually are hosted by local hotels. Haven't been to one in years, but have bought several paintings that hang in my home now. They are in my price range, but ran out of wall space. :D

Sometimes it's a small price to pay for something that "sparks joy" in day-to-day living or brings back a place very vividly. I have a painting purchased when we lived in Maine that evokes the woods in late winter.... you can just see the icy patches in the snow where the trees have dripped, smell the wood smoke drifting up from the chimney.... it's very special to me. Worth it, totally.

I like paintings and sculpture. I painted decades ago. Sometimes artists offer prints of their work, which is more affordable than the original
painting. I've been lucky to find some paintings and sculpture on the goodwill online auction site. They over charge on shipping, but the total price isn't bad. I really love some of the art I've bought there.

I remember those "starving artist shows" in motels. Some say the "art' was made, like a car, on a factory line in China. But art is art. Some people are super talented, but don't produce a lot of high end gallery type art. There should be a web site where you could display your art for sale. Kind of like an "art" eBay. Ya know, not 'gallery' prices. If you like the art, who cares if Rembrandt didn't paint it. I don't know if there is such a site. ??

A restaurant not too far from here has an art gallery all around the dining rooms. It would change every few months. Their food went down hill the last two times I was there, so I no longer go.

I'm fortunate to be near Yale in New Haven and The Bushnell in Hartford who have art shows now and then, but lately I haven't been.

Couldn't afford what I'd want anyway.

There are places online that I've come across over the years where you can purchase some art for a fairly reasonable price. I enjoy it but I don't have a good way to hang display stuff.
