As A Teen What I Envied Most Was......

I think watching Frankie & Annette movies I envied the teens living in California's coast. Of course I knew that life was not a party but just being close to the Pacific beaches was the coolest. Granted, I knew it was all fantasy. Then came the shows 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaii 50 to add to my pseudo misery. I disliked where I lived and left when I hit 18.

I lived in a small apartment with a divorced mom that worked as a waitress. I envied my friends that lived with parents and siblings in a house with TV.

I grew up 20 minutes south of San Francisco,so the beach was our "playground." Just a short drive over the hill and we were there. Immediately following graduation,a bunch of my friends moved over there and lived 10-15 to a house. Lived a pretty unhealthy lifestyle, actually. Lots of drugs. They all,for the most part, ended up doing well though.

So, Where did you go? You didn't say. I checked your profile but you don't have one. ??

Went to Europe and worked on an Esso oil company project in Spain. Then traveled around Europe and when I got back to America I went to Kansas thinking the farmers had what I sought and that was misfire. Went west to the coast only to be grossed out by the California mentality. So my disillusionment drove me back the Chicago area which again, I hated.
Eventually after being drunk for many years I left for Texas and found paradise.

Glad you finally found your home fmdog.

I grew up in Mission Beach (a sub of San Diego) on the beach. In fact I also lived in Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and La Jolla. It was a wonderful time.

I envied the "freedom" that people had in the movies......like getting to go to Florida on Spring Break. The day my parents would let me take off with a bunch of friends and go hang out on a beach, the sun would rise in the west and set in the east.

Thank goodness, once I got a little older, they were so busy with the younger ones who were hellions that I got by with a lot more. But I was 28 and had a kid in tow before I made it to Florida for spring break. "Where the Boys Are" it wasn't......

My sister and I were born late in our parent's marriage, our brothers were young teenagers when we were born.

When I was a teenager I went through a phase where I envied my friends that had young, age-appropriate, parents.

By the time my sister and I were teenagers, it was more like four adults sharing a house than a traditional family.

I went to Mission Beach when I was in the Navy. I was startled by how cold the water was compared to Long Island in summer.

Older teen: The kids that got to live in the dorms at college. I had to commute from home.

Used to purposely schedule classes at oddball hours---early mornings and evenings---so I could stay on campus as long as possible. In hindsight, it was probably a good thing. I'd have probably flunked out of school living in the dorm.

Younger teen: To be a member of the H.S. marching band.
