At least 28 people have been left injured in Munich following a suspected attack which saw a man ram a Mini Cooper thorough a crowd of 1,000 strikers.

The driver, a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, according to police, is believed to have accelerated into demonstrators. Bild has reported that that the suspect's name is Farhad N., born in Kabul in 2001.

According to Swiss publication Blick, he was already known to local police for drugs and theft, and drove at around 30mph into the crowd.

it is understood that a mother pushing her child in a pram was among those wounded. The child's life is said to be in danger, according to local reports.

Bavarian governor Markus Söder said that 'it is suspected to be an attack.' It comes just weeks after a car drove into a group of people at a Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg, leaving at least six dead and nearly 70 injured.

'We have to change something - and quickly,' Söder added, referring to Germany's migration crisis which he and other politicians are pushing to tighten.

The incident comes as world defence leaders including US Vice-President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gather in the Bavarian city for a major security conference.
Footage from the scene captured the moment the driver was arrested, as cops swarmed the vehicle and pinned him to the ground. Munich police have also confirmed they shot at the vehicle but it is unknown at this stage whether this caused any injuries.

Munich Police took to social media to reassure that the driver was secured on site and 'currently poses no further danger'.
A report by Spiegel stated the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees rejected the suspect's asylum application at the end of 2016.
The Afghan was later granted a temporary residence permit, which meant that his deportation was suspended. The alleged perpetrator was last registered at an address in the Munich district of Obersendling.
According to Spiegel, he is said to have 'posted suspected Islamist posts' before the crime.

Tragic. But how do you even begin to address it or try to find answers? It's such a multi-faceted issue that it seems impossible to unravel and find the right solutions for everyone.

True. But how to address it?

I understand why certain politicians want to try to remove this from the public eye. I'm not sure if they are hiding it or covering it up, but I think there is a fear that if the issue is dealt with too heavy handed then there could be protests or even riots.

At the same time, ordinary citizens going about their day have a right to live in a functioning and safe society.

Weird he was driving a mini cooper. There was a Cooper on the road yesterday on way to son's home. Was happy to see it, drove me into reveries of remembrances of when I lived in Europe and saw this car all the time.

Well these things just happen. It is clearly the result of inexplicable external forces, or perhaps the threat emanates from a space invasion? After all, it couldn't have anything to do with uncaring policy meant to carry out transformative societal agendas. Surely nobody is gullible enough to have fallen for that so many years?

One thing that should be done is should be made clear when one wants to permanently live another a country they must accept that culture. It is their responsibility to learn and assimilate into it.

People have their reasons for moving to different countries but regardless they must accept the culture and obey the laws. Too many look at a new country as nothing more than a new apartment sometimes literally. The host country should be demanding a little from new residents non citizens.

Maybe more mandatory education(not re education or indoctrination) but classes on how things work in that country. Maybe if they are forced to learn the culture, history and laws much earlier in the process more might appreciate what they have.

As most of all so-called "refugees" who do such terror attacks this man was multi criminal before and well known to the police. He had to leave Germany in 2017. But nothing happened, since he was tolerated. It is ALWAYS the same story!

Comment in the "Bild":
"Wieder ein abgelehnter Asylbewerber" (Again a rejected asylum seeker)
Kommentar von BILD-Chefin Marion Horn: Wieder ein abgelehnter Asylbewerber

From the article:
"Once again, the alleged perpetrator is a rejected asylum seeker, i.e. someone who should not be in our country. Again it is a man. Again he is known to the police, i.e. someone who does not abide by our laws. Once again, everyone will be shocked; once again, it will be said that this is an isolated incident." The man was born in Kabul in 2001. He came to Germany at the end of 2016. His asylum application was rejected by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. He is said to have been tolerated and was last registered in Munich. He is also alleged to have spread Islamist content on social media before the attack.

By the way: It was the former chancellor Merkel who opened the German borders in fall of 2015.

Except it always seems to be an immigrant legal or illegal..usually illegal.....
Like in this story...
On January 1, 2025, at around 3:15 a.m. CST (UTC–6), Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, then exited the truck and engaged in a shootout with police before being fatally shot. Fifteen people were killed, including the perpetrator, and at least fifty-seven others were injured, including two police officers who were shot. The attack occurred during New Year celebrations in the city, which was scheduled to host the 2025 Sugar Bowl later that day.

And how do you suggest the process to be? Denmark is not the world.

If in the country over 6 months not on a work or school vise the 'process' would lead to citizenship in steps or phases. Can't have people just hanging out unless they truely need or are worthy of asylum. If they have a bigger stake in their residency they might think twice about jeopardizing it.

The suspect had a criminal record, not terror related but a criminal record. Committing crime shows disregard for the law if not contempt. Small crimes are gateway crimes if you will to big crimes. Criminals tend escalate especially after not getting caught or punished. In any country the criminals need to go first and fast.

He's lucky he wasn't in his old country/culture because they used to chop hands off for stealing. Maybe that's another reason many of these migrants don't take western law or justice system seriously.

A friend of mine said to me that if the migrants are first generation or older, often they might have a sense of gratitude at being in a country that is generally safer than where they have had to flee.

But sometimes the younger migrants or second generation ones have a feeling of resentment. They arrive in the country of refuge, they have nothing, and could easily be stuck in a situation of great poverty. Then they look at other people driving nice cars, wearing nice clothes, living better lives and resentment builds up.

It does seem like western countries, by allowing lots of migrants into the country, have created a new class of poverty that is below the existing one. That cannot be good for anyone.

I understand the need or desire to help others, but we have to make sure we are in a relative position of strength to do so.

Unfortunately with this latest incident in Germany, the news media will discuss it, then a new news feed will begin and this car incident will be forgotten. Until it happens again. Rinse repeat.

That's terrible.

The most awful thing about is that all there will be are 'thoughts and prayers' and a quick mention by politicians, a sensitive soundbite, and then the media will move on.

Nothing will be really done about it. But when I think about it, I have no idea how govts could approach this subject. It's far too complicated.
