Autism Spike in Minnesota Turns Out to Be Part of a Scam

Wondering if PBS is going to do a follow up on this...in 2024 PBS Nightly News reported on the alarming rise in autism cases among Somali immigrants in Minnesota. Turns out the spike in cases was due to a widespread scam involving bogus autism "treatment centers" fleecing the US government.

Hundreds of autism centers popped up to meet demand in Minnesota. Now 85 are under investigation.

First person charged in autism fraud case connected to Feeding Our Future investigation

Some of the same people were also involved in ripping off school lunch programs.

It's not just the 'autism' label but other health issues as well which is an insult to those with a real physical disability like mobility issues from injuries or physical illness.

I have seen neighbors play up their children are 'special needs'-those children in public in front of strangers would talk slow like stroke victim but when they don't think anyone is around other than the parents they'd talk perfectly normal and/or fast including the use of curse words.

Some of these people/organizations certainly took advantage of "help" when the gov was offering help for Covid....

Sad :(
