Average American 1" taller and 25 pounds heavier over past few decades

The Steroids and Growth Hormones that the meat and poultry producers have been using for several years seem to be working. The time from birth to market has been substantially reduced, and the animals are larger and heavier...thus giving the producers increased profits. Unfortunately, when we consume these products, we Also get the "Benefits" of these "additives".

Good morning Don. You are 100% correct . I ate an Egg McMuffin earlier now my pants are too short !! :p

I know I've gained around a pound a year since my 20s, not sure about the taller part. It seems that the growth hormones they've been using are having an effect on the children these days too, many young girls I see are reaching puberty earlier, etc.

SG...

I don't know about other countries, but in the UK ......

Due to concerns about the potential risk to humans, the use of hormonal growth promoters for livestock is banned in the UK. Antibiotic growth-promoting feed additives have also been phased out - because of concerns about the potential spread of antibiotic resistance.

Being an inch taller would suit me OK, but being 25 lbs heavier would be a real worry.

I don't know if buying "organic" would insure meat being free of antibiotic growth-promoting feed additives, here in the U.S. I don't think that the term[organic] has been specifically defined by the FDA.

At any rate, meat of any kind that was free of antibiotic growth-promoting feed additives would probably not being affordable. As it is, the local supermarket thinks that charging $5.00/lb for[regular, non-organic] 85/15 hamburger, or $2.69/lb for cut chicken breasts-thighs-drumsticks is just "normal".

Happy to say that I am exactly the same height and weight that I was when discharged from the military in 1957 as a 21 year old kid.6' 4" 195 lbs.

5'4 and between 120-130, yeah I'm good...but then exercising like a hamster works for me...but I feel like I'm shrinking in height, even my youngest girl is on the verge of towering over me. By sixty I'll be a munchkin:eek:

Your exercising will strengthen your body, so that you can keep holding yourself erect. We shrink in part because our spine compresses. Not much we can do about that, but exercising helps hold things up.
