Babysitting rate back in the day...

For the SF girls mostly, but open to any/all. :)

Two newly started thread topics nudged me into starting this... "The Good Old Days" and "Childhood Allowances".

For those that put in time doing the babysitting thing (back in the day), what did you make? As in hourly?

I started babysitting outside the family home in and around 1972, and in keeping with the rate of pay for the times... I made .25¢ an hour. By the time I finished up with babysitting (in and around 1981-82), I was making .50¢ an hour.

Days, weekends, evenings, holidays, I accepted all, and even put in a few summers babysitting every day (Monday to Friday) for a few.

Saved enough to buy clothes, etc, and even saved up enough one year to buy myself a brand spanking new 10-speed bike.

I remember how hard it was for me to empty out my bank account on that bike. Took me a long time to save up the $90 for it.
