Bad luck with "road hazard" situations

We have horrible roads in Dallas County, but they are now all being repaired and paved over. A couple of years ago, I hit a pothole on a freeway and immediately got a flat tire. I pulled off a service road, put on the spare and had a new tire put on a couple of days later. It cost me dearly, but I eventually replaced all 4 tires with better ones. They are less than a year old at this point.

Last week, I was going down one of our local streets. Part was paved and the other part had been "dug out" (if that makes any sense) in preparation for paving. I didn't see how severe the drop was and didn't slow down enough. I heard a horrible sound. One of my tires had a welt on it and the ride was bumpy so I ordered a new tire from Tire Rack and had it sent to the tire shop. I felt lucky today as they said the tire had arrived and it would take just over an hour to put it on. The $380 I paid to Tire Rack is reimbursable because I have a road hazard package. I thought I had gotten off easy.

Then one of the technicians called me into the mechanics' bay to show me that the inside of my wheel is bent. They are 19" sport wheels on an Audi so the replacement charge is $780! The new wheel should arrive in a couple of days so all should be well, but I will be driving like a "little old lady" from now on.

Well, at 65 I guess I could be considered a little old man but I don't drive like one either. But I've learned my lesson.

I was just using a euphemism when I said "little old lady". It's the typical stereotype of both hands on the wheel and very slowly pulling out in traffic. I'm glad you don't fit that mold. I don't need any more slow drivers in front of me. Here's to you!
