Baltimore School Removes 3 Teeth From Child Without Parent Permission or Knowledge

A Baltimore child/student had 3 teeth removed during what was supposed to be a free cleaning given by the school without parental permission or knowledge. School says she signed a permission slip. The procedure forced the student to miss the bus and walk home after.

Apparently a dental program contractor was brought in for free dental services after child died with an infected tooth in 2007.

At the very least the parent should've been informed. I guess it comes down to the wording on the "permission slip".

I agree, it depends on how the permission slip was worded if she signed and approved any work deemed necessary. Although with a child so young, I'm surprised the teeth were that bad to pull them. I wonder also what kind of dental care the child had before the school program. Disturbing for sure, I think I'd take my kid to a low cost clinic before I started having services like that done by a school.

Without seeing the wording on the paper and knowing what information was verbally given to the parents I don't think that slip will get the school or the contractor off the hook. I hope this wasn't a dental school or interns trying to pad their completed procedure statistics for a degree or license. The mother will probably win because a child who normally takes the bus was forced to walk home after the procedure later in the day which is on the school especially if they didn't call the mom to pick up her son.

I'm also curious about the death in 2007. They say an abscessed tooth can cause a heart attack but I rarely hear of/see actual cases.

Should schools really be in the business of non emergency medical care at all? Fake doctor was used to give physicals to kids at one school.

Medical care at schools can be just as bad because the children will assume or be indoctrinated to think that school will be one stop shopping for all of their needs. What's going to happen once they leave school and there is no one stop shopping even though if they apply for things individually they could probably get them.
