This reminds me of an article I once read about the band Slipknot. There was a photo from a press interview. One of the members had just overdosed. The band was known for freakish masks and death metal. But in the light of day at this press conference were just a group of ordinary young men in tears. The one with the suspenders you want to hug, you can tell he's ready to go to pieces.
