bank account debit or not

I recently made an online purchase from a major dealer. After a couple of days they sent a cancellation because the item was no longer available. Their post stated no charge was made to my account. However when I checked my account activity It said there had indeed been a debit made. I sent email to said company asking why. Have not received reply yet but now when I check the account activity there is nothing about there being a debit ever made.
I dont understand this. Ideas??

When you initially saw the debit did it happen to say the status was "pending"? Those do not affect your balance and can just go poof and disappear.

I dont actually see my account statement online because of dialup so slow and it takes for ever to load so I use the phone service and it doesnt say pending just debited so I think you might be right it was pending.

You should call the DEBIT/CREDIT CARD company and tell them what has happened and that you dispute the charge. They should remove it for you. That's what I did when a similar thing happened to me. I'd call them right away.

Before I buy (online) from a company that I have not bought from, I go to their website and find a phone number and call to see if the item is in stock..I did this once for a mower part and the customer service told me it was on sale and I got it cheaper then the price online!!! woohoo1.gif

You should be fine, many companies put throw a hold for the amount, but, the money doesn't actually leave the account and get deposited in the the company's account till they clear to ship, if they cancel the order, the amount will show back up in your account, sometimes the same day or the next day depends on the company's policy. But, companies must make sure, your charge will clear before they accept your order, just their way of protecting themselves as well.

Yep,exactly right.
They just want to make sure your card is good.
It's done all the time.

The only time this has happened to me is when the status has been pending. So you don't have to do anything. It's like you were never charged. Check it out with your bank if it worries you or for confirm.
