Based on your past life experiences, do you tend to trust people or be leery of their motives?

I tend to be trusting of people and give them the benefit of the doubt. The problem is when they take advantage of me, and then it takes work to try and work things out. It's important for me to also earn people's trust. There's a book I read a few years back called SMART TRUST by Stephen Covey that talks about trust in a low-trust world.

I am always thinking "What are they after"? when someone introduced themselves to me.
My life experiences had led me to understand that a huge proportion of people had ulterior motives.
Having been taken for so many costly rides early on, I now do my best to not allow people in.
Sure, I have a couple of trusting friends, but no more.
The more people in ones life, the more chance of skullduggery.

I'm optimistic but also a little cautious as well when meeting new people. One good thing about getting older is it's easier to read people. I'm happy with the few really close friends I've known for years so meeting new, pleasing acquaintances is icing on the cake.

As for online, I trust a few people. Too many fictional posters ...oh, my goodness do we have a doozy here... and there are the low key trolls.

More importantly avoid trusting someone with your feelings and your heart! I learned this the hard way. Unless you are ready for a let down
