Be Very Careful When Selecting a Hero

I agree with the video. I only ever had a boyhood hero. I supposed we are expected to say one of our parents and yes, they are heroes, but aside from them, who else would you have considered as your hero while growing up. I was totaling into baseball and had big league ambitions, so naturally, my boyhood hero was a baseball player named Richie Ashburn.

Richie proved he was worthy of being a hero. He was from Nebraska and played for 15 seasons and 3 different teams; Phillies, Cubs and Mets. He played in centerfield and usually batted first in the lineup. He was a good person with a Christian background. Being from the Bible Belt, which Nebraska is sometimes included in that area, that’s no surprise. No one ever heard any dirt about Richie.

After baseball, Richie became an announcer for all Phillies games on radio and TV, along with his long time best friend at that time, Harry Kalas, who also used to be the voice of the NFL films weekly TV show. Harry died in the booth in April of 2009.

Sorry for the long post. I didn’t mean to write a Bio.

I think that it’s sad that we can’t celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of average people without feeling the need to ‘out them’ and expose their flaws.

A statue of Christopher Columbus that was erected by Italian immigrants, as a gift to the city, is still a divisive lightning rod in our community.

I say leave the poor old guy alone.

Aside from my Father, who will always be my one true hero.....

The only hero I can think of is a cartoon/fictional character ... and it only applies to this version...

Christopher Reeves as Superman
