Beautiful Peacock in full flight

Thanks Jillaroo, beautiful photos! :coolpics: Most of the time I just see pictures of them standing still...never see many in real life, pretty birds!

Have had some strange wildlife show up in my woodsy country environment over the years. And about 5-6 years ago, had four peacock show up on our side lawn, by the water, one Saturday morning. They were huge, beautiful birds that just appeared to want to hang around that day. At one point they spread their wings and just seemed very comfortable walking around. They drew some people from around the neighborhood, but didn't seem to be bothered by the attention.
After trying to figure out who to call for help, for them, someone came along and rounded them up. They must have belonged to people close by. ?? .. wasn't out there when this happened, so we never knew the story behind their visit that day.

There's quite a lot of them wandering about in odd places down here. I stayed at a motel that had some, only once! Squawking all night isn't exactly tourist friendly.
A roadside servo/diner near here had them for years just running loose. They roosted in the trees around the car park at night and just lived there of their own accord, never saw any enclosure for them but I guess they must have fed them. Don't know if they still have them, never think to call in there now, too close to home and I seldom go that way anyway.

Is this them?

This one below is the Koel Cuckoo for those still interested. They start this racket about an hour before sunup.

We don't get a lot of sleep down here.
These are only around a week or so spring and autumn, on their migration. Sympathy to the people who live where they're heading.

These are the dreaded Plovers. (Lapwings) They squawk like this night and day, whenever anything moves in their territory.
Start the vid about 50 seconds in for the action.

This was about the size of the chick my cousin ran out and caught. He pretended to eat it and brought it in to show me, cutest thing. When he thought the parents were at the optimum point of meltdown he took it back and put it back over the fence for them.
They rounded it up and ran it up the road to a vacant lot at the far end and I had no more dive-bombing or noise for weeks. They're back again now and bombing everyone in the park on the other side of the house. siiiiiiigh. Hope he can catch one of this next batch too. They seem to breed all year round up here.
