Bed bugs spreading in France

This makes me paranoid. Never had bedbugs and I certainly do not want them. I already worry about dust mites as I have allergies.
I do not travel and we never have anyone stay, so risk ought to be minimal. However I have stepped up my care over hygiene.

I change our bedding weekly and make the room as inhospitable as possible to any creepy crawlies. I spray round the bed with Dettol disinfectant spray, dust, polish and vacuum well. I wash the bedding at 60 degrees. I air everything religiously as moisture is what they like.

Also surely we must be careful of buying second hand items.

Are you worried and do you take extra measures? Would you have anyone to stay who you know travels? What if we take a taxi?

Hey, Rose. These stories are designed to have the effect you're having. It's all about drama.

No-one wants bed bugs. Bed bugs exist, and have existed, in every part of the world. As yucky as it is, they're part of the right tapestry of mother nature.

You don't need to do anything about it. There are no new measures that should be part of your life. There's no need to worry about them spreading, they're everywhere already. At best, this is a reminder for people in the hosting/travel business to pay careful attention and do due diligence. But for the you's and me's of the world, it's a story that exists only to make us squirm. IMO.

Number one thing our management tells us is don't buy clothing or furniture from thrift stores. Nothing 2nd hand. We get 4 pages of instructions with our leases every year about them. I vacuum, vacuum and vacuum more almost daily. There are bed bug traps all over our building in the public areas.

It has nothing to do with being dirty but there are some ways to try to prevent them. Even then, you can still get them especially if you live in an apartment building with people who don't understand or move in with them in their furniture.
