Benny Goodman

I wasn't aware of the clarinet being a difficult instrument to learn and master, but Goodman's, music has always seemed magical to me, where it prompts me to dream of the era as if I were there.

Okay AM you busted me. Lol. Well any and everything that entails more then yours truly wishes to partake in more then breathing and getting up from my bed is truly a difficult task.

Living in the NY/NJ area during the big band era was wonderful. Easy to see them all in the city and in Frank Daley's Meadowbrook in Cedar Grove, NJ. In the mid 50s they were fewer as the young early rockers came along with very soft and really fun and nice rock. Presley, Darin, et al were terrific and the Doo Woppers rounded out our music tastes. Still had them all and they cannot be outdone by anyone today. Even some of the Country stars were really virtuosos. Roy Clark comes to mind as he was a very talented classical musician, which many folks did not know. I loved Goodman's clarinet, but Artie Shaw's was just a terrific in my mind. Jimmy Dorsey wasn't bad either with his.

You just named all the greats, Lew!

Goodman, Dorsey, Shaw, Glen Miller, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, Duke Ellington... all totally awesome!

Love the music of Artie Shaw. We went to a dance with his band once (he was not in it by then). They were really great!
Wow! Lucky you!

I love it all, Jewel!

Makes me feel so at home, like as if I lived back in the era.
