There's a children's book waiting to be written. Okay, I took the plunge. I was to wait for January but well...half price plus the employee discount. I can already understand how people get so passionate about bearded dragons. It's like having a tiny mellow dinosaur. I set the tank up and my daughter added some cutesy touches from the old fish tank. He has a deck where he can hang out and get warm or hide inside.

A great video would have been Ninja and Chii seeing him for the first time. " It's not a fish, it's not a rat, it's not afraid of us, and waiiit what's this then? There are bugs running around in there". He seems to really enjoy a fish tank plant especially. Keeps climbing it and tumbling off only to climb it again. I can't find my picture transfer thingie or I would post pics...soon:D In the meantime this is what an average baby beardie looks like...

Congratulations Fur, hope your new family member is happy and healthy. Looking forward to your pics.

Congratulations and good luck with your new family member. I had a chameleon when I was about nine. I went on a school trip to the circus and they were selling the poor things. What I didn't know was that there was no way it would eat those dried up bugs they gave you with your purchase. Ended up that the entire family swatted flies during the summer that my Mother froze for the winter months. This became a very time consuming job. My Grandfather helped by finding big black ant eggs under old tree stumps. Circus relished them, that's what I call him, and he lived for quite a long time. We never ran out of food. I don't know much about the bearded dragons but did hear they can become quite affectionate.

I still feel deep guilt. My young boy had a chameleon and needed a heated something...poor little reptile died. This critter and we have it go'in on...:D

Yeah Fur, they do need special care, certain temps and lighting, particular foods. I don't know anything about them. I would have to buy a Beardie's Guide for Dummies if I ever got one, that's for sure! Good luck with your new family member, hope your other pets won't harm him.

I think they do need something heated. I guess mine lasted as long as he did because his bowl was near the radiator. Not because we knew what he needed, but it was a good place to keep him. I remember sitting on the sofa, after my bath, with my pj's on watching Lassie or Rin Tin Tin. I would take the little guy out of the bowl and let him sleep under my pj top right on my stomach. I would peek at him from time to time and he would be sound asleep. It was a good thing his bowl was where it was or he would have been so cold after enjoying the heat I produced right after my bath.

Just got the full guide today. Must read cover to cover. The rats are six feet over dog level. Bernie at least ten.
