Best places in Canada to retire

This website makes it seem that American seniors can easily "Move to Canada ". The reality is that our Immigration system is set up for young University educated graduates, or skilled trades workers with at least 5 years of actual employment in their trade. The points scoring system is based on a simple fact. After age 40, an applicant starts to lose points, and by age 55 their chances are just about zero to be approved as a Immigrant to come to Canada. The idea that a 65 year old US citizen can qualify as a Permanent Resident in Canada is just plain nonsense.

Americans can VISIT Canada for up to 183 days in any 12 month period of time, THEN they have to LEAVE Canada, for at least 183 days. The EXACT SAME RULES apply to Canadian "snow birds " in the USA. While in Canada, those US citizens cannot WORK, Attend School, or use any of our social services. They do NOT qualify for Canadian Universal health care services, and they MUST buy US travel medical insurance medical coverage, before they travel to Canada.

Ask your self a simple question ? WHY would Canada grant Permanent Resident status to people who have never paid a dime towards our economy, and are now more than 50 years old ? What possible benefit would that bring to our country ? None.

A further point to think about. This company that "gone fishing " has mentioned is in the business of "helping people to Immigrate to Canada " They will charge fees to "help you make an Immigration application " to the Canadian Government. The fees you pay to them are NOT REFUNDABLE, and neither are the fees that you pay TO THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT to process your application. In other words, this company will lead you to believe that you can get Permanent Resident status in Canada, when the reality is that you will not get it. If it was "possible " to do this, Canada would be over flowing with seniors who have done it. That is not the case, at all. Canada does not have a "retirement visa program for seniors, from ANY country ".

Canada expects that Permanent Residents will be young , educated, and fully employable and able to work, and pay taxes for DECADES before they qualify for a Canadian Government pension, which they and their employer both contribute to every pay period over their working life.

I would LOVE to live in Canada, but it is either extremely expensive or the weather gets too cold for my liking. There are fewer places that are more beautiful when the whether is nice, nor where people are more civil.

Seadoug. Remember that you can visit Canada without a visa, for up to 6 months. Our National Parks are a bargain in terms of costs for RV's or trailer lot rentals. Today, your US Dollar is worth $1.37 Canadian. Today in Toronto the high temperature was 31 Celsius, which converts to about 86 F. We have 4 weather seasons, but from May to October it is what we call spring then summer. JimB.
