I came out of the supermarket today and a gust of wind blew my hat away, so, I let go of my shopping trolley and chased after my hat.
When I returned with the hat firmly on my old nut, my trolley was empty, someone had pinched my groceries that were neatly bagged ready for me to get into a taxi.
No-one saw who took my stuff, but I thought that anyone stealing food must be desperate and hungry, so back into the supermarket I went and bought more food.
I've been mulling it over since I got home, and I do recall two youths (a boy and a girl) standing where the trollies are kept outside the supermarket.
Anyway, the food only amounted to just under £20, so it was no great loss, and if it was those kids that took my foodstuff, well, they got a feed on me. 😊

I think this is a riot!

Your hat blows away so you chase it and some kids take the opportunity to pinch your groceries! All you need is the Benny Hill music to go along with it!

this is a serious problem in the UK at the. moment... most of these kids are the offspring of Eastern European immigrants and are trained to rob.... and an 80 something pensioner was just ripe for the pickings...

I'm sorry this happened to you, Tim. It may not feel like a great loss to you, but I just read what @hollydolly said about it being a big problem there, so every time they get away with it, it most likely empowers them to do it again and again. Maybe the next person they steal from really needed those groceries. :(

I'm getting the impression that it has nothing to do with being hungry... is that right, Holly? Do they resell the food? Or just steal it so they don't need to work and buy their own?

I suppose for all or any of those reasons, but nothing is sacred with some of these people.. they come here supposedly fleeing.. from goodness knows what war is raging in Romania and Eastern Europe.. and so many of them literally bite the hands that feed and house them.. but I have to stop here because of the political rule

@temoc, You've got an admirable outlook that undoubtedly keeps you in good mental health...I don't take kindly to thieves, around here that means they're heavily addicted to Meth, which turns mother's little boy or girl into a soul-less monster.
In BC, both meth & coke seem to have that effect on people. One is just the upmarket version of the other.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad you're ok and taking it all in stride. That's all we can do.
