A woman has been arrested after at least ten people, including young children, fell ill after eating chocolate reportedly laced with unidentified drugs.

The chocolate was sold under the label Cali-Gold and purchased through a stall at a market in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, over the weekend.

The police along with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and the UK Health Security Agency are investigating the incident.

Initial rumours circulating on social media suggested the chocolate was laced with cannabis, however this has been denied by the police.

Ian Godber, a father of four, said he was left 'fearing' for his children's life after they fell ill from eating chocolate from the market.

He described how his children were left with their 'eyes popping out of their heads' and other symptoms shortly after consuming the confectionery.

Mr Godber told the Mansfield Chad: 'The kids had four or six squares and then half an hour later, they started to go funny.

'My youngest son was affected the worse. All four of my kids had their eyes popping out their heads, felt sick and giddy.

'I phoned the paramedics and they came out and rushed my youngest into A&E because of his symptoms.'

Detective Inspector Luke Todd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: 'We are currently investigating reports of people falling ill after unknowingly buying chocolate laced with drugs over the weekend.

'A 63-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of administering a noxious substance and is assisting the police with our ongoing inquiries.

'The chocolate bars were reportedly sold in the orange 'Cali-Gold' boxes and golden wrappers pictured on Saturday in Mansfield Market.'
