Big Media Deal

A few days ago, in the province I live we had 480 new cases in one day. 2 people died. BIG DEAL for the media. One dead person was 80 years old & the other dead person was 90. That is 0.004 people who died over the number of people who became infected. I am more scared of cancer, heart attacks & strokes but then these aren't "sexy" topics are they? By the way, the government here has been cutting back on hospital services for the last few years "to serve us better". Now, they are scared that people are getting sick & they might over-whelm the hospital services. Well, I guess, "what goes around comes around". We are told to stay home & do virtual everything. However, check the websites for any major airport in this world & you will find all sorts of wonderful air flights from many exotic countries on this planet. Brave new world for sure!

Well, it probably is a BIG DEAL for the families of the people who died, and the family and friends of the people who have the virus. But, with 480, there will be more cases and more deaths. After all, as I understand it, one person got off a plane from Europe that landed in NY, look at us now.

We had 80,000 new cases yesterday (someone can correct me if I am wrong) over 230,000 deaths and counting. I am not scared of cancer or the virus.

I have a rare untreatable cancer. I really wish people would stop comparing the virus to cancer. I cannot give my cancer to anyone. I did not catch my cancer from anyone. My cancer has endangered only me. I do not have to live my life any differently because of my cancer. Same for my husband.

He has an encapsulated lung cancer tumor. Just a little time bomb present from Vietnam, via agent orange, waiting to explode. He didn’t catch it from another person. He can’t give it to another person. He doesn’t have to live differently because of it. It endangers only him.

Cancer is only a big deal to people who have cancer. The virus is, IMO, a big deal to everyone whether they believe it or not. Again, IMO.

@Packerjohn, you're fortunate to live in an area where COVID hasn't hit hard. Count your blessings. Plenty of areas in the rural US had few cases for a long time. People responded as if they were in no danger whatsoever. Now their hospitals are filling. I haven't had this virus and pray I don't get it. My heart goes out to those who are suffering from the illness, long-term effects, or the loss of a loved one to it.

@Aneeda72, your point is well made about cancers versus this virus - or any contagious disease.

I live in deadbush montana....nothing here but cattle ranches and lumber mills. Beginning in august we had 8 cases of virus. Today we have 189 and no deaths ,,,,yet....the local medical center has 10 beds. I have acute copd and on oxygen. I wear a mask when I have to shop, people who come in my home to deliver oxygen tanks or clean wear a mask. I use hand sanitizer, wash often and stay home. It is boring, but no worse than being at sea on a ship for months at a time. There are still people here who do not believe there is a virus and make no bones about their constitutional rights to not wear a mask or not social distance. (flat earth society anyone?)

I saw an interview of a guy in Texas yesterday having breakfast with his family and friends. All mask less. Most overweight. Apparently in his town, if people wear masks they are called Democrats or hippies or, I would suppose, something else. Crazy.

Asked what would happen if he caught the virus and died, he replied “I guess there would be slow walking and sad songs.” I wonder if he will have the same attitude if his children or wife dies? Wish the reported had asked him that.

Names don’t kill you, the virus does.
