  • Industry experts revealed the most popular 1970s, 1980s and 1990s records
  • Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album Rumours is at number one, with Pink Floyd next
Fleetwood Mac album Rumours has been named number one with 40million copies snapped up worldwide.

The 1977 LP featuring hits such as Dreams, The Chain, Don't Stop and You Can Go Your Own way is the bestselling classic-era record on vinyl this century.

Some 280,000 of its 40million sales since being released have come since the turn of the millennium, according to the Official Charts Company.

They have revealed a new top ten of the most popular vinyl albums this century which were released in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.

Second place goes to Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon - originally released four years before Rumours -

.... while US grunge band Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind is placed third.

I'm delighted that 2 Major British Bands have taken top place.. and the great US band Nirvana takes 3rd...and 10th.. while British bands Oasis takes 4th & 8th.. Queen @5... David Bowie @ 9

Biggest selling vinyl of the century revealed - it's not Taylor Swift!

Very interesting list.

I was listening to a podcast the other day and apparently young adults are very much drawn to Rumors. It is amazing how timeless that album is. DSOM isn't surprising at all. I too am happy to see Bob Marley up on the list. I am glad that his music keeps on with the younger ones.

I'm not too surprised that Thriller is not on the list since these are sales for only this century and Michael Jackson's reputation isn't what it was when Thriller was released.

I read at the end of the article that these were British sales so Oasis and Stone Roses makes perfect sense .
