Just came back from second appointment for a lower bridge. No fun but I love this dentist. Gentle accent...Polish? Russian? Czech? I don't know, but he could tell you they have to remove your head and make it sound pretty tolerable. Best of all is Happy Gas set high enough you don't come back in the room until they're done.

For those who have never had it they simply put a mask on your face. Part of it comes from within, you have to relax and put your mind elsewhere. That's where the gas comes in. I guess it's like chemical hypnosis. If you're open to going a bit trippy in your thoughts it's quite entertaining. I always start with Teletubbies.

Smiling baby sun, then they are dancing with dogs and cats, and bearded dragons...but of course. All doing Callie's happy dance, taking the dragon theme, oh remember I Love Lucy and "I'm in Love with the Dragon's Dinner"...perfect...I'm laying there drooling and smiling and tripping my whiskers off.

Just this week I learned my new dentist, where I'll be having major cleaning (with numbing) done in 2 appointments, used nitrous oxide on request. I didn't hesitate to request it. I am now looking forward to next week's appointment. I'm glad I remembered to ask. So many no longer have it. She did say my insurance may not pay for it, but it's worth it to me to pay myself. It's the only way to fly! (well, other than mj that is)

I agree with you 100%! There are offices I guess trying to save on insurance liability who get rid of gas. But really for those of us paranoid before we even open our mouths? Give us tranks, topicals, snow us with gas. You have a relaxed compliant patient. No fuss and no muss. Everybody is happy and you can even do extractions and root canals. The patient is smiling dumb but aware win/win

I won't go to a dentist who doesn't use it. It's a requirement for me. Fur, it doesn't matter much what frame of mind I'm in when they put the mask on. It puts me into a very nice place fairly quickly. I'm always disappointed when the dentist is finished with my teeth and I have to come back. :D

When I was younger I had many infected teeth. I think I was only put to sleep once when I had an extraction. Unfortunately, I have Sleep Apnea, and the dentists couldn't put my to sleep. (I'd need a BiPap machine... can't use that while they have their hands in my mouth!)

Fortunately I had all my teeth extracted a few years ago. Now I happily live with my dentures!

I had laughing gas one time years ago. It was fine. Not a deal-breaker though. Don't know any dentists that use it now, or maybe I just haven't asked.

I'm one of those lucky people who can relax enough to fall asleep on my own in the dentist's chair. Love those twice-yearly cleanings, and never had a bad experience.
