Blood pressure

Lately I've been having erectile problems. Decided to check my blood pressure and it's been on average now between 135/85 to 145/85.
It's been like this for about 8 months now. I need to bring my pressure back down about 20 points.
However, I do not want a blood pressure medication that will cause me many side effects.
Any suggestions of which blood pressure medication I can use that won't cause unwanted side effects?

@Santiago, although 135/85 to 145/85 is elevated it's not yet considered 'hypertension' I agree that dropping down 20 points is desirable.
As Alligatorob mentioned, weight loss is a sure fire solution. Of course, cutting down or avoiding salt, reducing or eliminating alcohol is effective.
I used to take hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic, and I think probably has the least side effects.

Santiago, I cannot say on the medication but I can tell you that a new CURE for erectile problems is available. Most medical doctors that are specialized in Urology in our country have it available. It is not a medication but is a series, 4-6, of sound wave treatments. They are painless and done right in the office. It eliminates any small blockages in the capillaries that cause the problem. Check it out!

This is not a 'fast fix' for anything, but an overall 'fix for everything' pretty much. Consider a nutritional ketogenic diet to improve metabolic function and overall health. It's not magic nor miraculous, but it beats chronic medication. This may be on interest. Hope this helps.

I'm taking amlodipine and I haven't had any side effects (none that I've recognized), but I'm female so I wouldn't know if it has any side effect for guy stuff.
I'd guess your doctor would have the best advice and know about each of the different types.

I take it too along with Coreg. I have to take BP meds to keep my brain aneurysms from getting worse.I work closely with my doctor to keep my BP where it should be.

Oh @terry123, I didn't know you had that. I'm so sorry. What a worry.:(

Just a warning for what it's worth. My mother died from a stroke caused by an aneurysm the morning after going to the hairdressers. These "beauty shop strokes" are rare but happening.

The pressure on the back of the neck at the shampoo sink breaks off plaque which causes the stroke.

I simply quit going to the hairdressers and nobody noticed. I cut the front myself and have my husband do the back. He's left handed and it sometimes gets pretty short by the time he's corrected his slant a few times, but who cares? Uneven is stylish now!

The cure for high blood pressure varies so much from individual to individual. There's a ton of medications out there and depending on your chemistry, some work better than others, and some will have side effects. I went through about 4 different trail and error experiences until we found a medication that works as it should. I remember after one that zapped my energy to nunervingly low levels, my doctor said, "Well, sometimes we just have to find the one your body accepts." That was long ago. The methodology today might be a little more organized and direct. I'd trust my doctor on this one.

What a terrible shock that must have been, Della. Thank you for sharing your story and for the warning. I'd never heard of this before.

My BP is up this year too - even after losing 20 lbs. Guess I have a few more to go! The cholesterol is also up so, back on Lipitor, for the 3rd time. I'd rather not take medication either!

I recently read that a short walk after dinner each night does as much good as walking miles during the day. We've been trying to do this but "every" night has been a challenge. I also have an stationary bike and have tried to use that too. If you try to stay active, that should help you lose weight AND bring down your BP.
