Marking Egypt off my "places to visit" list.

"The body of a British tourist who died in Egypt has been returned to the UK without his heart or kidneys. David Humphries, 62, collapsed after playing in a hotel pool with his young grandchildren last month.

The family group, which included David’s wife Lynda, 59, their daughter Anita and two grandchildren, were on a two-week holiday in the resort of Hurghada when the tragedy happened.

Organ trading has long been an issue in Egypt, with poverty driving some people to illegally sell body parts. In July, 37 people were convicted of illicit organ trading in a Cairo court."

I have a very tiny list of where in the world I'd ever want to be. I'm not surprised at anything anymore.

A few of the comments posted on the article are interesting.

"It doesn’t make sense to me that they would harvest a damaged heart and old kidneys. More likely, to me, missing organs showed improper medical treatment that contributed to his death."

"Sounds more like acute kidney failure from a possible dosage error of the antibiotics, the kidney failure can easily cause a heart attack. The heart and kidneys may have been removed in an attempt to cover up what happened, not to sell on "the black market""

"They are clearly trying to hide the effect the drugs they gave him had on his death."

Not forgetting of course, there IS organ trading going on, but just as another point of view. I don't think we'll ever know.

True...but I suppose as long as the organs are missing no one will ever know exactly what the situation is/was. Besides, if they were "harvesting" for the black market they'd likely have no qualms about selling imperfect merchandise. Ick.

Or maybe they saved some of his organs after the autopsy for further study.

Organs such as you mentioned are no good for transplant unless they are taken out within minutes of death, or while the body is kept on life support after brain death has taken place.
