A pipe bomb exploded along or near the route used for a Marine Charity 5K race at the Jersey shore. Race cancelled before start. There were 5,000 participants.

Dear G-d

You know the feeling of distance? Je Suis Charlie, or the Bataclan under siege. Horrible frightening images and heartbreak but it's somewhere else.

The Pulse shooting and you sobbed reading the paper, but it was somewhere else.

The Boston Bombing and you still think that boy should be drawn and quartered, but it was somewhere else.

Even 9/11...we're close enough that we could see the smoke in the distance for days. But it was still somewhere else until it wasn't.

In our area the waste cans in the train stations were changed to clear a few years ago so it was easier to see what was in them.

We were just at Seaside a few months ago. My niece's take their families there almost every day.
