Boy Scouts Welcome First Female Eagle Scouts

Nearly 1,000 young women have attained the rank

Growing up in Minneapolis, Isabella Tunney followed the progress of her older brother with admiration and occasional envy as he worked toward earning the Boy Scouts' prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. This weekend, at age 16, Tunney will be one of nearly 1,000 girls and young women honored by the Boy Scouts in a virtual celebration of the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts.

I'm confused. It has nothing to do with the bright, extremely talented, disciplined young women. Why does a girl have to be in the Boy Scouts? Is there a reason the Girl Scouts can't have Eagles Scouts in their organization? Is it now, just called "Scouts" not boy/girl?

I can't imagine why any parent would encourage/allow their children to join a scouting organization unless they were going to be active participants in all of the activities.

I think it's great that the BSA works with GSA for the Eagle scouting award. The Girl Scouts have a Gold Award, with is equivilent to the Eagle Scout(it was originally known as the Golden Eaglet of Merit).
