Brakes.......seems like it's always something.

Yesterday around 2:45 p.m. mama was headed across town to go visit a girlfriend for a little bit and she came back just a few minutes later and said that her brakes didn't feel right on her 4WD Murano and that they were making a noise.

Luckily the local Firestone Service Center is open seven days a week so I called them and they said things were kinda slow and for me to bring it on over.....two hours and $250.00 later she had new front and rear brakes.

That's life I reckon but it just seems like it's always something don't it ?

Hmm, how many miles did you have on the Murano?

Father it's a 2009 and there's right at 49,000 on it and they've never been changed.

I was back in the shop when they pulled them and the rears were the ones that were worn pretty bad and making a racket......fella said I could 'get by' for awhile before changing the fronts but I just had them go ahead and change them all the way around.

50K miles is about where you can expect OE brakes to begin to wear out....sooner if you do quite a bit of city/start-stop driving. I've gone through our vehicles brakes, and replaced all the pads with lifetime warranty ceramic pads, and when I was doing the car I found a rear rotor that was starting to warp, so I replaced that also. There is a recommended "break in" routine for ceramic pads, and if done correctly, they should last for as long as a person has the car.

$250 isn't unreasonable at most auto shops...$99 per axle is about the best prices most offer. So far, I can still work on the vehicles, and I get my parts from RockAuto.com...for about half of what most places charge.

I agree Ike, it is always something. But that's a small price to pay to keep your wife safe, now if you were the only one driving the car, then I'd say save the money and wait it out. :playful: :love_heart:

And I hope you told her she was worth every penny (haha) They usually catch those things on our yearly inspections, and even if you're not in need immediately, will tell you. Good she noticed!

Yeah, it's always something alright. On New's Eve, our water heater decided to take a dump. I called our plumber and they asked me if I could wait until Tuesday. I told the man on the phone that I would like to have hot water sometime tomorrow. He then told me that if he was to come out before Tuesday, it would cost me double time. Our daughter lives a few miles away, so we decided to wait until Tuesday and went to her house to take our showers.

Driving habits, location [rural or city] have a lot to do with wear. All in all 49,000 miles seems like a reasonable amount of time to see wear that causes concern.

The price is reasonable.

And yes there is always something that pops up as an expense you would rather not have.

As others have said the feeling of making sure your wife has a safe reliable vehicle is well worth the expense.

Nobody else Ike, you're special and the only one. :hair:
