Breakfast around the world: How different countries start the day

When it comes to breakfast foods across the globe, there are as many ways to enjoy the first meal of the day as there are to say "good morning."

From creamy cornbread cake in Brazil to savory Tunisian chickpea soup, from fluffy Ukrainian pancakes to sweet coconut jam toasts in Singapore, these 21 international specialties offer a breakfast option for every palate.

How about fish and baked beans? That's what I am still trying to move past when I was in London and they served those items on the breakfast buffet.

Unlike other meals breakfast is what suits me that day, cereal with fruit, eggs w/potatoes & sausage or pancakes & sausage. I miss jumping in the truck and going to The Breakfast Place near by for genuine home cooking.

I think Iceland would be the closest to my breakfast - oatmeal topped with nuts, raisins, sugar and yogurt. I also like Morocco as it reminds me of english muffins (or crumpets) and butter and honey. My least favourite would be fish. I am thankful I can at least have fish for supper once in awhile. I eat eggs for breakfast too and I like over-easy or scrambled.

but they don't serve it together.... it may have been available for you to choose fish, and or beans at a Buffet...but you wouldn't usually put them together on the same plate....and it wouldn't be served together on a menu...it was only there on the buffet as a choice for you..

Fish is a high protein food.. I have fish (salmon and trout) for breakfast as you can see from my list...

Kippers, & smoked haddock, are very popular high protein breakfast foods... Especially flaked haddock in Kedgeree...

Baked beans are a super food.. they are cooked in tomato sauce ( apparently our canned baked beans taste very different to the American ones so I'm told)... so ours are very popular being high in fibre and cooked tomato sauce is very good for you, men especially in the prevention of prostate cancer.. and further to that they taste good... so Baked beans served on toast or served with sausages, eggs and or bacon is a very popular breakfast here .

Holly, I am not discrediting eating those foods, just not for breakfast. At least not my breakfast. I know all about tomatoes supposedly being a good item that helps prevent prostate cancer. Most men do. It's the Lycopene that helps reduce the risk. I actually do not like tomatoes, so I eat very few and luckily, I guess, I have no prostate issues. Maybe it's in the genetics. I do eat the heck out of olives. Maybe that's it.

I normally eat breakfast around noon. So it is whatever strikes my fancy. I like typical American breakfasts of eggs, bacon or sausages, homefries and toast the best. I make that a few times a week. Oatmeal with cinnamon cooked in almond milk and sweetened with real maple syrup is my fast food breakfast and I love it. Sometimes I make waffles or eat leftovers from the night before. If I am not in a hurry I will make sausage gravy with homemade biscuits. One day I was feeling lazy and instead of biscuits put the gravy on Tater Tots (processed frozen potatoes that I do like, but they are not really healthy) and it was very good. I grew up in the south so love grits too but they are sometimes hard to find locally. I have ordered them online. Now writing all that, I think I will have an early breakfast.

I usually alternate porridge one day, bran flakes with mixed seeds and ginger the next, sometimes I’ll go mad and have a full English

just having coffee now

I can't eat much first thing in the morning, so, for me it's plain cereal or oatmeal with fresh berries. If not for needing food to take with my meds, I would probably skip breakfast.

Oooh I forgot one of my favourites, French toast (which I have often with crispy bacon) .... :)..

Pinky I'm the same I can't eat first thing in the morning... so I have it for brunch about an hour or 2 after I get up

Yesterday was smoked salmon, cream cheese and chives on whole wheat toast for brunch.

Don't know what I'll have today; just having coffee now.
I'll have something similar every once in a while: smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese, minced shallot and capers. I've never tried chives.
