Broad is the gate... philosophical thought

"Wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to perdition and many choose to follow it."

This is a biblical phrase so this a philosophical / theological query in nature, but isn't this a judgemental statement? I think deep down inside we are basically all the same. We're good people with our own individual problems, dreams in life. When you take the time to get to know someone, you will realize you have a lot more in common with others than not. Of course there have been some evil dictators in history who have harmed multitudes, but isn't this the exception rather than the rule?

Thoughts? Opinions?

Matthew 7:13-14
Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby.

When you're dealing with the Bible you are dealing with judgement; that's just how it is. Jesus was particularly speaking to his audience; even though he drew large crowds he knew only the minority of people were listening, and thus required only a narrow gate to heaven, being so few in number.

Like you, I feel most people are good and given the right circumstances in life will remain so.
