Broken toe healed wrong.

Some here my recall that I broke a couple of toes over a year ago in Feb. 2017.....if interested see thread "I took a tumble".

Anyway, the little toe never did heal correctly.....it's got a hump in it, is tender, bigger than normal, discolored and looks almost exactly like the picture below. (minus the toe polish :))

I don't limp when I walk and it doesn't actually hurt unless I put direct pressure on it or wear snugish shoes like my cowboy boots.

I am diabetic and have neuropathy in both feet so folks like me are supposed to keep a close eye on foot problems which I pretty much do.

Mama has been after me for several months to go see a podiatrist / foot surgeon but of course with me being me I've just been shrugging it off and just putting up with the discomfort.

Well in the the past couple of days the toe seems to have gotten a little more swollen, tender and discolored.

I know darn good and well if I go to the doc, after a x-ray, he's going to want to operate and I'm not really in the mood to have my foot whittled on especially with spring, summer and yard work just around the corner.

I'm thinking about just riding it out a little longer and seeing what happens.....what do y'all think ?

I agree with Rose, please see the doctor as soon as possible, especially since you have diabetes....nothing to fool around with. Your wife loves you, you have to listen to her with things like this. :sentimental:

With what is on the calendar going to a foot guy this month is out, I received the results from my dermatologist today on the four biopsies that he took on my face late last week.....two next to my left ear (side burn area) and two on my forehead.

Three are cancerous they've got to come off......surgery scheduled for early morning Feb. 27th.

Early on April 2nd I've got a routine dental cleaning and after that nothing on the calendar for the rest of the month so that is when I'll probably go get my foot looked at......now I've got to do a little research to see which foot docs are rated good locally.

I feel for you Ike, you've already had so many surgeries to remove cancerous growths from your face. Did you mean the surgery is scheduled for March 27th? Regardless, you really should have it taken care of as early in April as you can. You don't want to lose a toe....or worse. :(

If it's getting swollen and discolored, there is a possibility that there may be an infection starting. I hear ya on having to get surgery with good weather season quickly approaching....BUT, if the condition gets worse, you might be laid up for weeks or months. Far better to get the situation resolved and only lose a couple of weeks...rather than being housebound for an extended period of time.

Yes I meant March 27th for the cancer removal and April 2nd for the dental but I also just noticed that I've got my routine / every 90 day doc appointment for blood and urine work this coming Mon. the 19th.

With Google I found a few foot doctors in town and a couple of them are rated pretty good (that is if you can trust posted internet ratings ??) so more than likely I'll go with one of them in April.

Tis done.....I've got an appointment with a foot doc Tues. April 10 at 9:00 a.m.

I know darn good and well that he's probably going to have to whittle on me......if I'm right how in the heck am I supposed to mow and do yard work wearing one of these things ? :)

Yes RR a podiatrist / foot surgeon who also happens to specialize in diabetic foot problems.......I've got BCBS 'F' so I don't need to call or go see my regular MD for a referral, I make the appointments where I want to go on my own and then just go.

I do make sure to tell my non regular MD to copy my regular MD on everything so he'll know what's going on.

I knew a guy who had almost the exact same problem. he dropped a heavy power saw on his foot and broke a toe. he did not shatter it just cracked it so it did not need to be re-set. Anyway, it did not heal properly and because of diabetes an infection set in. he ended up losing 3 toes.

April 10th is a long way off. maybe you could get to see the doc as a walk-in patient ? Hey, buddy, don't fool around with this.
My advice ? Listen to your wife. get it dealt with, NOW.

To hell with the lawn. Your health is MUCH more important. I am, also, diabetic I know what I'm talking about. People like us can lose a foot because of a "simple" infection.

Little toes never heal quite in my experience and it can take a long time for the swelling to go down. I broke my left little toe twice by stubbing. It took a long time to heal and I had to wear sneakers for comforts sake. It looks normal now. I do agree with the others that since you've got diabetes you might need professional help with this. Best luck.
