Texas not much better!! 20 degrees and climbing to 28, 15 tonight!!!It is 32 degrees here and tomorrow freezing rain. It is hard to believe but that is the forecast.

Couldn't you just use the available current from a solar setup while depending on normal (grid) source for poor or no sunlight days? I know Missouri is pretty much like Wisconsin but you do keep at least a 10/12 degree edge on me. I enjoy using discarded materials for building and repairs. The waste in this country is unbelievable.

Yes, I could get a basic solar setup that would supply much of our needs on sunny days...without going to the hassle of having ton's of batteries for the cloudy days. However, even such a setup would not be worth it from a financial standpoint. We have fairly low electricity rates...8.1 cents/KWH...so investing several thousand dollars in a basic solar system would still result in several years before I broke even on costs. Solar and wind technology is great...on a large scale...but is still rather impractical for most individuals. Taking advantage of all the dead trees in our forest, and using them to feed the outdoor wood furnace seems to be the most practical and cost effective means I have for saving on energy costs in the Winter. Every year, I can find 12 to 15 good sized trees that have died out, or been storm damaged, so at this rate, I will probably run out of wood in about 150 years.
